  • Re: The Sun: Millions of miles away?

I just can't believe how you people can live like this, believing EVERYTHING what's written in that outdated old book, and to come to this day when everything around you is pure science ! The laptop you type from, the phone you're using, the medicine you're taking when you're ill....even the fact that you drive your car, you go telling people the earth is only 6000 years old, but on your way back home you fill your tank with fossil fuel. Let me just say how ignorant you are and how thick is the rock you're living under to believe the sun is only 500miles away.....first off you christians keep on posting a picture where the earth is flat, the sun and the mood are glued on the underside of the firmament (whatever that may be, nobody ever saw it), but in the same time you all say the sun goes around the earth. Well, which is true ? The sun goes around the earth, or is it fixed on the firmament ? If it is fixed, does that mean that the firmament is rotating thus everything is rotating (moon, stars) around the earth ? So the distance between to sun and the mood is the same at any given time ? And another thing, if you say the sun is 500miles away, how come when the sun rises on one part of the world, it sets on the other part of the world ? How is this possible on a flat earth ? Also explain this : if you claim the sun has a diameter of 32miles, when he rises in Japan, then in Europe, which is a good 4000miles away, that means the sun is 4500 mile away ? Do you imagine how small a 32miles ball would appear from a distance of 4500miles ?
And let me clear something up to those who keep on asking how can we see the sun if it was 95million miles away, but we cannot see the lights of New York form England : YOUR EYES DO NOT EMIT VISION ! Your eyes do not emit anything in fact, you only see light that REACHES your eyes, that means if a light is strong enough to reach you, you will see it. The light New York emits does not reach England for you to see it, got that ?
See, it's quite funny how you all try to explain what we've come to know about the world today using a book that's 2000 old, when people didn't know as much as we know today, when people were mesmerized by a "shooting star", by a lightning or by an eclipse. Oh, and speaking of eclipse, if the sun and the mood were fixed on the SAME firmament, how can you explain the eclipse ?
If you believe it or not, I have read the entire thread, all 127 pages of it, and I truly expect you to not answer any of my questions, but simply say "it's not in the bible, we do not care".
Hoping for someone that firmly believes in the bible has the courtesy to let everything aside and come for an open discussion, THAT would show that you care, show that you want to spread your maker's word and explain everything I wrote using logic.
All other "unsaved trash" are welcome to sustain or disapprove me.

I skimmed it though, and it was alot of so-called facts, and anger, and hate.

Why do you hate Jesus friend? What did he ever do to you, except DIE FOR YOUR SINS!

I think you should have at least read it before making that claim that I hate jesus. I never said I hate jesus. I just question his existence. And you call my facts "so-called facts" only because you could not come with an explanation.
          Not good enough.
If you do take the time (not even 3 minutes of your time) you would see I raise some questions that are impossible to answer using the facts taken out of the bible.

I'm glad you haven't been sick since then, but that doesn't mean medicine as a science hasn't work hard on finding cures for all sorts of diseases. And I think you should give credit when credit is due....I believe you know christians that at one point were sick and seek medical help. If that's true, I think you should acknowledge that people studied the human body enough and did a lot of research to come up with drugs that can help overcome a disease. You can see the effect the antibiotics have on a various of bacteria and viruses, but you can see the effect prayers have on the same viruses. In fact there are numerous cases when children have died of disease because parents have refused medical treatment, children that could be saved.

Please, with respect, both of you, stay on topic. If you cannot explain or answer my questions, simply say "I don't know", it's ok not to know, you just can't know it all.

Ibelieveinmyself, the questions you're asking are scientific, not religious. They make the same attempt to understand nature that we make to understand the Holy Spirit. Your questions would be better answered by the Flat Earth Society. We deal in science, they in religion. Don't force science upon them, nor religion upon us. And if you ask one question at a time, you have a much better chance of getting an answer.

There! I read it! I hope you're happy now, that was FIVE MINUTES of my life that I'll never get back!

And guess what Mr. Bossypants, MY OPINION on Jesus didn't change! I STILL think you're a Jesus-hating Godmocker.

Did you really think you little semi-literate, atheistic diatribe was going to cause me to abandon my faith?!? Well, don't we have a rather high opinion of ourselves!

Listen sweetheart, I believe in Jesus and that His temporary death more than 2,000 years ago gave me the chance to spend eternity in Heaven by His loving and merciful side. You, on the other hand, are destined to burn in a lake of molten sulfur for that very same eternity. And believe me, I'm going to be laughing at your pain the WHOLE ENTIRE TIME!

I'm not trying to force science on them, I already know religion and science don't mix, and I'm not trying to force religion on us either simply because I don't believe in religion. It is man made, so it cannot be perfect, far from it...

You see, I'm glad you actually read what I've said, but in the same time I'm not, because you haven't contributed with anything to the discussion. I believe this thread was started as a discussion. As I understand this is not a debate forum, I'm not here to debate your beliefs, I was just stating that you may be wrong in some parts of your understanding how this world/earth/sun/univers works. All I'm trying to say that you may be wrong, and the way you interpret some parts of the bible may be inaccurate.
BUT most definitely was NOT trying to make you abandon your faith, because let me tell you, what you believe in is only and strictly your business, not mine. And by saying that I will burn in hell and you will laugh at me, that is very judgmental of you and mean. You should not display anger as you are a christian. Just be happy that you will go to heaven and leave others believe in what they think fits them.
And being "semi-literate" in my questions or explanations was simply because I was not trying to be very scientific, but more on the logic's side of the problem.
But the again, not one of the christians made an attempt to prove me wrong. Is it really that hard to stay on the topic here ?

I'm not expecting any treatment, but seeing you can't take criticism, and apparently nobody can tell you you're wrong. But you can tell others they're wrong and they will burn in hell, right ?

And how dare you accuse Brother Portway of getting angry. He is one of the most loving and understanding members of our Holy congregation! His patience with unsaved heathens like yourself is legendary! I daresay you could take a page out of his book of how to behave on this Christian forum my young friend.
