The Bible does not teach that demons are eating the sun.
At the time of Jesus' crucifixion God explains what happened - remember that there was a FULL MOON at the time - and here is what He says:

LUKE 23
44 And it was about the sixt houre, and there was a darkenesse ouer all the earth, vntill the ninth houre.
45 And the Sunne was darkened, and the vaile of the temple was rent in the mids.
46 And when Iesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: And hauing said thus, he gaue vp the ghost.

Yes. The moon comes between the earth and the sun. At that point, the sun is BEHIND the moon, and thus won't be illuminating the side we see, hence not a full moon (it would be a new moon, actually).

Try again, Rev. Oh, I'm still waiting to hear how something attached to the "firmament" can move closer and further away (like the moon does, due to it's ovoid orbit) giving us both annular and total eclipses. What your storybook says happened 2000 years (give or take) ago is irrelevant.

And you forget that Second Baptist does not share all positions in common with Landover. We believe that God destroyed the firmament when He released the Floodwaters, which were the "waters above the firmament".

Before you ask "well, what happened to all the water", it's all still here. The weight of the Floodwaters pressed down on the softer land and squished it up, making mountains. It just took a while. Much of a year, in fact.

From Noah's perspective, it would appear that the water was receding, when really the land was rising.

It's all very simple, really. I'd think you'd have been able to figure it out yourself.

If God wants the sun to darken every so often as a sign then that's entirely up to Him when and for how long.

Genesis 1:14And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years.

So why do we need to try to explain it? It's a sign.

Trying to understand God by measuring everything and getting all overexcited about things you measured is not going to help anyone worship God better. In fact it's counter-productive and distracts young people from Christ. This sort of meddling with young minds by teaching them wrong things like the fairy tale of evolution and a large expanding universe is totally irresponsible and is damning inquisitive minds (that should be praising Jesus for His temporary death) to a lake of fire forever.

Why does there need to be a battle ground between science and faith?

I believe in my loving and kind God 100% and I have no trouble also believing in what scientists say. It's obvious that the Bible was written by people who put their own spin on what God was revealing to them and they got some of the details a bit wrong. The important thing is that we believe in God with all our hearts and remember that our hard working and dedicated churchpeople spend ages studying how best to praise God and fulfilling our missions.

So why let a few quibbles about what shape space is and when it all was lovingly created by God as a perfect place for us to live in actually happened?
