Re: False Religions And Cults
If this Spitzer person published a cookbook based on his experience of having eaten food, would you buy it?
This is a sticky topic.

And this is supposed to address the Jesuit's actual academic credentials as related to physics/astrophysics/cosmology/any other real science how, exactly...?Originally posted by tomdstone View PostNo. He lets his escorts know where he wants to go and he wanted to appear on the Larry King show with the Jesuit priest Father Spitzer.

No. He lets his escorts know where he wants to go and he wanted to appear on the Larry King show with the Jesuit priest Father Spitzer.Originally posted by Joanna Lytton-Vasey View PostMr Dstone, at the risk of appearing callous, it occurs to me that Stephen Hawking doesn't have a great deal of choice in the matter, does he? Agreeing with Mrs. Lytton-Vassey, I am uncertain how does that address my question.Originally posted by tomdstone View PostStephen Hawking had no problem appearing together with Father Spitzer on the Larry King show.
If you were in my class and tried to weasel your way out of a question on the exam by answering a different one, you couldn't count on receiving an A for the class. If you know what I mean.

Stephen Who? I doubt he is someone to whom we would turn as an authority on religion and science.Originally posted by tomdstone View PostStephen Hawking had no problem appearing together with Father Spitzer on the Larry King show.
Brother Doctor Professor White is our go-to source for understanding the Bible from a scientific perspective.
Have you met Dr. White? Lovely man, so modest given all his accomplishments. I heard he won a prize for origami in his youth, but then learned of its demonic symbolism. He gave up the folding of any kind of paper because of his devotion to the Lord; won't even gift wrap a box. Such a sacrifice.

But, leaving that aside, your little anecdote really hasn't dealt with "Ms" De Barriga's point, has it?

I realize he also got a degree in business administration, which means at least he knows how to sell stuff which may or may not be useful. Anyhow, him selling stuff which is mildly plausible as "proof" is great salesmanship, but definitively unscientific.
In the future, I would like to request that, when talking about science, you cite only works which are peer reviewed and written by scientists, rather than things written by random people with no scientific background.

Re: False Religions And Cults
I remember Spitzer from my Catholic days. He's a priest and therefore has scales on his eyes. He believes he's cannibalizing Christ on Christ's orders. The man is a loon.Originally posted by tomdstone View PostWhat have you read on the subject? I know that we do hit people over the head with the Bible from time to time.* But that is only because people refuse to read it.
They come here making all sorts of accusations about us and claims about the Bible and time after time, they have not read the actual verses being examined. On the rare occasions when they have turned their eyes upon an actual Bible verse, they ignore other verses that are pertinent to the point they are asserting. This is almost always because there are numerous verses soundly refuting their perspective and only one verse weakly supporting it.
Let us be frank, haters of LBC, we know that most of the world is in ignorance of the True(c) contents of the Bible and those who are acquainted with it use all manner of tricks to make its words shore up their own point of view.
This is one of the greatest dangers presented by the Bible. Happily, it also provides a worthy challenge to those who want to shine the light of reality upon it. We, the True Christians(tm) of the Landover Baptist Church community, have taken up our oil lamps, flashlights, candles and flare guns to illuminate the Bible's real contents.
Don't blame us if the light hurts your eyes. (Or the flare guns singe your delicate feelings.)
* We don't literally hit people over the head with the Bible. Depending on the inclusion of a concordance and other forms of annotation, that could injure or even kill someone. And the Bible literally directs stoning as its preferred form of capital punishment, not skull crushing with a leather bound collection of mashed, pressed and formed wood pulp.

Not believing is basically the only sin you need to commit to be consigned to hell. An infant who dies within moments of taking its first breath can do that without trying.Originally posted by Proud_agnostic View PostCall me a sinner, but I don't do anything sinful, except for "not believing"

You neglected to include the word, "please" in the sentence above. As written, it is an imperative statement, not a polite request.
