  • American Sniper: Fit for children??

Friends in Jesus, I want to take my young nephew (age 9) to see American Sniper, about war hero Chris Kyle. He is an example of such bravery and heroism, hiding behind buildings and shooting all males age 10-65 in the back from a mile away. I want my nephew to see how our soldiers protect our freedoms, and afterward we will discuss in detail how our Constitution would be entirely different if people like Chris Kyle were not standing up to Muslim terrorists, which anyone in an exclusion zone by definition is.

My concern, however, is that I was on Internet Movie Database, and it says here "A woman is wearing sexy lingerie, and approaches a man, they hug, kiss and are later on shown in bed, under the sheets. Implied sex."

Also, the "F" word is used.

    American Sniper parental guide

Should we stay home? I don't want to upset a third grader with implied sex and the F-word, but I feel he needs to see American role models.

    Any advice?

Sir, I do not mean to advise you as a woman since you are a man, and therefore much more important and wise than I, but in this situation, my husband recommends to speak with them before hand of the dangers of Hell caused by performing these activities and then the benefits of following wise, Christian male role models. That's how he was raised, and he is a godly pastor now!

    Yours in Christ,
    Elizabeth

Re: American Sniper: Fit for children??

He called himself a Christian. Does any one know if he was a Baptist?
Kyle wrote a 2012 autobiography entitled "American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History," which drew national attention. According to Bailey, Kyle reportedly recording 160 kill shots during his four tours in Iraq as a Navy SEAL.

In his book, Kyle elaborated on the ethics of combat as he made his first sniper shot, which according to Bailey involved killing an Iraqi woman holding a grenade.

"My shots saved several Americans, whose lives were clearly worth more than that woman's twisted soul," he wrote. "I can stand before God with a clear conscience about doing my job. But I truly, deeply hated the evil that woman possessed. I hate it to this day."

However, Bailey wrote that Kyle was not a "straight-laced Christian," noting that his book was full of "profanities and stories of his family struggles." Despite that, evidence of his faith is written there.

"I was raised with, and still believe in, the Christian faith. If I had to order my priorities, they would be God, Country, Family," Kyle wrote. "There might be some debate on where those last two fall - these days I've come around to believe that Family may, under some circumstances, outrank Country. But it's a close race."

In comparison to the film version, Bailey reported that the "God, country, family" line is mentioned in passing when Kyle was asked by another soldier if he believed in God. He was also shown putting his Bible in one of his uniform's pockets in the film.

"There's evil," Cooper said in his portrayal of Kyle. "We've seen it."

According to Bailey, Kyle elaborated on his faith in the book. Although he believed in God, he admitted that he did not "necessarily get down on my knees or sing real loud in church," noting that he was "not the kind of person who makes a big show out of religion."

"I find some comfort in faith, and I found it in those days after my friends had been shot up," Kyle wrote. "Ever since I had gone through BUD/S (SEAL training), I'd carried a Bible with me. I hadn't read it all that much, but it had always been with me. Now I opened it and read some of the passages. I skipped around, read a bit, skipped around some more. With all hell breaking loose around me, it felt better to know I was part of something bigger."

Kyle also described how his family shaped his Christian beliefs in the book.

"My family had a deep faith in God. My dad was a deacon, and my mom taught Sunday school," Kyle wrote. "I remember a stretch when I was young when we would go to church every Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday evening. Still we didn't consider ourselves overly religious, just good people who believed in God and were involved in our church. Truth is, back then, I didn't like going a lot of the time."

According to Nicholas Schmidle of The New Yorker in a 2013 article, Kyle seemed to think of himself as "a cross between a lawman and an executioner." In addition to ignoring standard military dress codes and using the image of the Marvel Comics character known as the Punisher on his equipment, religion played a role in his worldview.

"Like many soldiers, Kyle was deeply religious and saw the Iraq War through that prism," Schmidle wrote. "He tattooed one of his arms with a red crusader's cross, wanting 'everyone to know I was a Christian.'"

Despite the fact that he killed people as part of his military duties, Bailey noted that Kyle declared himself a "strong Christian," albeit an imperfect one in his book.

"I am a strong Christian. Not a perfect one - not close," Kyle wrote. "But I strongly believe in God, Jesus, and the Bible. When I die, God is going to hold me accountable for everything I've done on earth. He may hold me back until last and run everybody else through the line, because it will take so long to go over all my sins."

Kyle admitted that while he didn't know what would happen on Judgment Day, he noted that his personal relationship with Jesus would cover all his sins.

"I believe the fact that I've accepted Jesus as my savior will be my salvation," he wrote. "But in that backroom or whatever it is when God confronts me with my sins, I do not believe any of the kills I had during the war will be among them. Everyone I shot was evil. I had good cause on every shot. They all deserved to die."

Keep in mind that the s3x and f-word will be experienced in the context of God's wrath through military prowess. When you leave the movie theater, I would point out those women and men who look like they may have had, or enjoy s3x outside of the confines of Holy Matrimony. You might consider having some Bible verses outlined and prepared so your nephew can help rebuke them right then and there. Talk with your nephew about how Jesus is always watching, and either He consents to the copulative encounter or He does not. If He does not, His Divine Anger is inflamed, as is His Divine Right and Sole Privilege. I would keep s3x in the right context - a tool just like a gun, to be used for good or evil, and Jesus is not only watching your nephew to see what he does, but He is reading his little mind (Psalm 139:2), watching his little thoughts and fantasies play out in his head (Matthew 5:28). Your nephew should understand he's not alone even in sleep, and Jesus is watching and judging his dreams (Psalm 139:7). With prayer, this should sufficiently keep the s3x scene and f-word in appropriate context.

            Brother,

I would wait for the edited version from the Landover Review Board before showing this to your son. They do great work of catching anything Non-Christian. I just watched an edited version of Cinderella with my boys (originally a run time of 74 minutes, edited down to 4 minutes 32 seconds)

War is heck. All sorts of unGodly events occur. When I was in the 'Nam, everywhere I went were scantily glad girls, some of whom could not of been more then ten years old (though it is hard to tell for sure, they all look alike, boys too).
I say, if you can't stomach being in the company of whores, then perhaps you do have the stomach to blow the head off of some guy.
My kids (even the little three year olds) know what to do when they see a whore or possible whore. Point and quote the Bible in the loudest voice possible. It makes a dad weep with joy.
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?
Numbers 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Matthew 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Matthew 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

Chris Kyle laid in wait and fired hot steel jacketed rounds of ammuntion toward brown people, women and children included. Literally causing organs to explode like confetti onto bystanders. How is this not good for a 9 year old. Why not just tear the old testement out of the bible while your at it.

The man was a True Hero/Christian, and is now laying with his head planted firmly in the lap of Jesus. I say stopping at just taking the boy to see the movie is a mistake. There must be a Walmart close by. Instead of ice cream after the movie, why not buy him a rifle and some ammunition.

Exodus 3:20 And I will stretch out my hand, and smite Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midst thereof: and after that he will let you go.

God gave man the Barret 50 caliber rifle for a reason. With a flat rate trajectory of almost two miles just think of all the sinners you can reach out to. You can smite 2 or 3 sodomites in one fell swoop.

Now just imagine what you can do with that young boy laying by your side, holding your big gun.

And this is exactly the reason why all children should go and see this movie, and read the book, too. This Godly man is such a great role model for all kids, especially those with sociopathic or psychopathic tendencies, so they can learn how to release their urges in a Christian and patriotic way.

I believe it is wise to teach good marksmanship at a young age. If we had ten thousand young sharpshooters like this Chris Kyle to turn loose on the Muslims, just think of the improvements we could make in that part of the world. After that, well, there's plenty of Buddhists; and Romans; there's a lot of them, too. God has many enemies.

I took my entire family to see it. While we felt it is a great All American film, there were no slow motion close ups during kill shots. My kids were disappointed that did not get to see the Devil taking the souls of the mooslimes.
Most of the Hutchins children are terrific shots at long range. They will climb up into trees that line the fields (about 1,500 feet away) and shoot at the water cup the field nigras are drinking from. To see a nigras eyes open as wide as saucers when a hole 'magically appears' in their cup is a real hoot.
We sell them replacement cups for $5 in the company store.

The Catholic don't have morals, dear. They rationalize pagan witchcraft however best hides their disdain for the Sweet Christ Jesus, and dupe generation after generation of thoughtless sheeple into sending their boys to the priest's rectory every Friday night for rousing games of Bingo and Buggary.
