Why Apathy Truly Does Not Exist
Today, the third largest religion in the world (Atheism) is in fact not having a religion. It has been said that “those who stand for nothing will fall for anything.” Action must be taken to overcome apathy. For without something to believe in, there is no purpose in life itself. “Those who stand for nothing will fall for anything.” In today’s society, which is heavily influenced by overpaid athletes, washed-up singers, and celebrities that seem to be famous for nothing, feelings of apathy are all too common place.
The residents of the world are much too preoccupied with the high-fashions being sported on the runway, and they type of liquid that Brittney is giving to her children, to form opinions for themselves. Instead they take the easy road out by not forming an opinion at all. Perhaps if they took the time, they could actually become informed enough to create their own opinion. Apathy is never the answer. It has been said “that the worst thing you can do is nothing.” If we all just stopped engrossing ourselves in the lives of others, we could create a better life for ourselves and those around us.
One of the saddest facts of today is that atheism is growing rapidly, and has become the third largest religion. Religion used to be the basis for everyday life. Now it has been cast aside because the world has become lethargic. For most atheists it must be too much for them to go to church once a week or bow their heads in prayer every now and then. It distracts from their lives and they selfishly do not want to commit themselves to something that is not tangible. Well, it’s called having some faith. We all need it, and we should all apply it in our daily lives. No matter what you put your faith into it is better than not believing at all. Those who do not believe have already condemned themselves to a life that will be empty and unrewarding.
The world today is so heavily influenced that the media has done away with almost all need to think for ourselves. With the click of a mouse we have an unlimited amount of instant knowledge at our fingertips. The problem with this is, all this other information out there came from someone else. Therefore they have formed your opinion for you, from the time you click on their article. Television has become a distraction and fills viewer’s minds with vapid dreams and the bias opinions of the writers. Every where we turn technology decreases the need to think and increases the number of people basing their own beliefs off of others. This also causes an increase in apathy because people do not want the opinions of others, but are too lazy to create them for themselves, so they give up all together.
Truly, atheism and apathy do not really exist. If you say you are apathetic and do not have any feelings on a particular matter, well than that is an opinion in itself. Many who claim to be an “atheist” are in reality, not. They know there is some higher power and when it is convenient for them, or when they are in need of something, they will call upon that higher being. It all comes back to the way our society functions, and what they deem appropriate. By accepting these non-committal emotions we are only hindering the progress of the world as a whole. Selfishness, Laziness, and indulging ourselves in pointless matters or persons are the main causes for this illusion of apathy. If we truly focus and look at what is really important now, and in the future we can cast these feelings to they wayside and replace them with ones that are beneficial, not to mention real.
