Re: Why are Wiccans so fat and ugly? A study.
Jews don't call God Yahweh. They've lost the original pronunciation of YHWH. When Jews read the Torah, they substitute Adonai (Lord) for YHWH. This was the practice even in Jesus' time. Elohim is the Hebrew word for God, or gods. Let's look at Deut 6:4-5, which was translated from Hebrew.
Hear, O Israel: The Lord [YHWH] our God [Elohim] is one Lord [YHWH]: and thou shalt love the Lord [YHWH] thy God [Elohim] with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
No mistranslation there. Lord has been substituted for YHWH, and Elohim has been translated as God. Now let's look at the passage you originally quoted, which was translated from Greek, in which Jesus quotes Deut 6:5.
Mat 22:36-40
36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord [Kyrios] thy God [Theos] with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Kyrios means Lord and Theos means God. Again, no mistranslation.
Jesus didn't think so.
Jn 8:41-45
41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.
42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
Verse 31 makes it clear Jesus was speaking to the Jews.
Jn 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
You were taught wrong. You can’t be a Christian if you don’t believe the Old Testament.
How can you believe in a religion that was fabricated within living memory?

But that is just semantics, both religions follow the same god.

The moment you quote the Old Testament, I loose you. I was taught, back when I was a Baptist, that the birth of Jesus closed the Old Testament, and that the rules, restrictions, and teachings of that portion of the Bible were to be disregarded as obsolete.
By my faith, you are the ones who sin. Your laws require that you eliminate those who do not follow the same god as you. My rede is simply this: Do what you will, so long as it harms none.
