This image is like the story of the blind men and the elephant, where one of them is touching the trunk and thinking that it is hose and another one is grasping the legs and thinking that they are columns.

But here there is no elephant. It is gone. The blind men have been grasping thin air and they are confused. They are deciding to pretend that the elephant is still there and that it is a great elephant. But because everyone else can see that the elephant is gone, the blind men are sad and beautiful in their confusion. "Look, see!" they are shouting like children. "The elephant is still here and it is still great!" Only the dung-pile that the elephant left behind is remaining and the blind men are wallowing in it and treating it as if it were precious perfume.
