WRONG.
They say "putative" because they aren't SURE. Knowing the meaning of words is important, and frankly I can't believe that I am having to explain your own fairy tales to you, but here goes nothing:
If they (paleontologists) at some point claim that there is ANOTHER fossil even older than THAT one that they believe is ALSO part of the fossil line that connects mankind to some mythical common chimp-man predecessor, then THAT one also becomes a "putative" (or "unsubstantiated") part of their house of cards. It doesn't negate (in their minds) the validity of the current flavor-of-the-month "transitional" species.
By your logic, if I find out the name and history of, say, my great-great-great grandfather, that means my grandfather is no longer part of my lineage.

Your mistake, like many Jesus-haters, is that you think we are just a bunch of rubes who haven't studied the fictions that "scientists" try to foist on an otherwise unsuspecting public.
