Hey There!

My name is Saturday and my real name is disclosed for personal reasons I'm sure you will all understand. I live in the Philippines, which apparently, people boast for being the only christian country in Asia, and for being the 4th largest christian country. I was raised a Catholic by my parents, and I only recently found out about Christianity when I was still elementary after browsing our history books. Apparently, Iglesia ni Kristo means Christianity in Filipino (Forgive my stupid 12 year old self for thinking the two were completely separate religions altogether).

Anyways, I'm not looking for conversion, and I was already baptized. I simply want to know more about Christianity itself as a whole, such as what is the recommended bible to read for it and if Catholics such as me will still go to Hell if I'm not a Christian.Things such as this may look simple for the regular Christian, but I honestly do not know any of these and I wish to learn more, as well as to debate and discuss about certain topics. (I already listed a few I wish to discuss about )

Also, my time zone is GMT +8:00 and it is currently January 5, 2017 the time I posted this, so please bear with me if I seem slow with my reply time. Thanks for understanding.

You will indeed go to hell, as will most people (Mt 7:13-14), unless you are blessed enough to be among the chosen few (Mt 22:14). Pastor Ezekiel has written an informative essay on Why Roman Catholic Papists Are NOT Christians

We use the 1611 King James Bible on these forums. While it contains the Apocrypha, we do not recognise those books as canonical. It is the most reliable version of the Bible, as it was translated directly from some of the Greek and Hebrew manuscripts available to scholars at the time into English -- rather than from Greek and Hebrew into Latin (the Vulgate) and then from Latin into English (or other language), like Catholic versions. Surely, you can see how such a circuitous translation process would distort the original meaning of God's Word. How could you ever trust what you read?

That is understandable. However, I have no desire to convert and I am happy with my current religion, even if it means going to hell in eternal damnation. Though, I must say that Pastor Ezekiel really makes a good argument about the case. I'll have to think about converting someday, but right now, I'm still a Catholic.

I've never actually recognized that our bible is completely different from your bibles. I recently bought the King James Bible and I decided to compare it against our bibles, and I have to say that some scriptures and parts are really different from each other.


Speaking of the bibles, can you use the bible (King James) for Catholics as well or is it strictly a Christian-only bible? I'll have to notify my local pastor about this.

Catholics use the bible very loosely, our local pastors tells us stories of the Lord and what He'd want us to do without using any scriptures or bible passages. We'd only use the bible for stories such as how Moses delivered the Hebrews from Egypt, Judas' betrayal and such.

From what I've researched thus far is Christians rely on the bible heavily (forgive me if I'm wrong) so maybe that's why you're troubled? That's why I want to learn more about your religion, and if you could, help me understand why Christianity is better. (I've read Pastor Ezekiel's Catholic Post already.)

Yes. The church hierarchy interprets what the Bible means and adds to it where necessary. How can you trust what they say? They are fallible men.

And also, if you're just going to make up rules for how to live and then try to find a Biblical justification for them, why not just save a step and ditch the Bible? At least then you'd be honest (Rev 3:16).

Don't trust what others say about the Bible. Read it for yourself.

I'm currently catching up on King James' Bible. And you are actually right, I don't even recognize (or even heard) most of these scriptures. I am on the Deuteronomy testament right now.


Catholic Pastors here in the Philipppines rarely quote scriptures, and I can understand why you may consider Catholics a twisted religion.I will really have to think about this. Thanks.

May I ask, how do you choose which stories from the Bible (it's a proper name, which is why it is capitalized) are to be used, and which are to be discarded? Also, who does decide which stories are worthy of your attention and which are garbage? Based on what criteria?

Since story of the exodus from Egypt is on your approved Bible stories list, which part of it speaks to you the most? My favorite part is about all of the first sons of Egyptians being slaughtered by God. That must have been a lot of little babies dying that night, in all social classes of Egyptians - including the peasants and slaves who never persecuted the Israelites! Oh, God must have laughed so hard hearing the cries of mourning first-time mothers that night! Talk about postpartum depression!

Here's an assignment for you, dear: fetch yourself a Catholic Bible and compare it side-by-side with the King James Bible, and come back to tell me the differences. (I already know the answer, so I'll be able to correct you if you get it wrong).

Do you sleep during Mass, dear? Or do you play games on your phone and not listen to the Mass at all? Or don't you go to church at all?

Because as a recovered Catholic I want to reassure you that the Holy Bible is cited several times during the service. You sit through most of them (readings from Old Testament/Acts/Letter, and then the sermon), which would explain your sleeping through them, but you actually have to get up for the reading from the Gospels, and I think you also stand up singing Psalms (I don't remember, I've been Saved™ for a while). In addition, there are a few more bits of Scripture scattered through the Mass, but without proper citation and often paraphrased (such as the bit about not being worthy to receive Jesus, paraphrased from Matthew 8:8).

I do not mean that I personally believe in this part of the Bible and do not believe another. I am simply stating that in my church, we barely use the Bible itself at all, except when it's time to read the Old/New Testament. At sermons, as I have said, my local pastor only tells stories about his personal life or any other story and relate it to one piece of Scripture. Is that how Catholic churches work in your country?

As for my favorite part of the exodus of Egypt, mine was when the Egyptian soldiers drowned in the Red Sea, even though they tried to flee. The Pharaoh, drunk with jealousy and revenge, still tried to push onward even though the army knew the Lord was with the Israelites, effectively condemning hundreds of souls to death.


Though no real, concrete evidence of the Pharaoh himself drowned alongside his doomed army, he will still pay for his sins (along with murdering his sick excuse for soldiers) when he reaches Hell.


I like this part because it depicts rightful justice being dispensed. The Pharaoh was opressing the Israelites for years, and now all his work has been undone as the Israelites walk away happy and free, while he condemned himself among the goats of Hell.

I am not saying that they do not cite Scriptures at ALL during mass, much less knowing Catholicism at all in other countries. Pastors' sermons are usually personal life stories they have and adding bits of Scriptures in as a lesson.


Psalms are also sang, the Testaments, Acts, Letters were also included. I was merely talking about how the Pastors seem to just tell us a story with pieces of information from the Bible. I don't know if Pastors also do this in other countries, but in my church in the Philippines (University of Santo Tomas Central Seminary Building) that's what they do.


Are they similar to other Catholic churches in other countries?

Most Filipinas and Filipinos go overseas to work to pay enough money for their family, for as you can see currently, our financial standing is quite shaky. So it may be because your maid found a higher paying job or she wants to return home. (Please don't think I'm seeing you as an overbearing person )


I am currently in a nice job here in the Philiplines as an accountant, though it would be nice to have a new change of scenery. I'll have to consider it (as well as my religion ).


Also, I am worried for our overseas Filipinos, as President Donald Trump's new administration can harm the jobs for OFWs. Is there any reassurance that OFWs such as my brother can still work in America?

The most boring thing about the Catholic Church is that it has exactly the same liturgy in all countries. Once I attended a mass which was in Hungarian (a demonic language which has nothing in common with any decent European language), and yet I knew exactly what part of the mass it was all the time - the order of things, even the intonations are exactly the same.

Also, in Catholic church you don't have "pastors" but "priests."

I know, right? Most of the soldiers who drowned were just young kids forced to serve the Pharaoh through the draft, and some people could say they were innocent, as personally they had never oppressed the Israelites (slave overseers were doing that job). They died for obeying orders, while the Pharaoh, the only person really guilty in this picture, probably lived out the rest of his life in happiness.

Isn't that just beautiful?

They all wear lots of makeup and skirts that are too short and tease men and tempt them into sin and then when a man gives in to his natural urges they go running to the Daly City Police Department and "press charges" and have "restraining orders" and other very unfair things.


I love Mr. Faith Machine very much as he is my strong brother in Christ but I do not think you should Skype with him. Read the warning underneath each of his posts. Like so many men, poor Mr. Faith has sometimes gotten in trouble because painted women tempted him.
