I am a man, and my reason for not believing in god: My "religion" science proofs that the Earth is around 4.5 billion years old, and man did not start out as we look to day but evolved from single celled organisms and so on.

Its called being Danish, how should I know how the edge of hell is like from living in Denmark?,if I did believe, I would spend eternity in hell, no that is not what i wanted.

I thank you for the time you have taken to read my post, and the time you have spent replying, I know I offended you, and I apologize for doing that. I am just trying to understand, and wanted you guys to know my frustration.

I'm being frustrated by endless statements such as "it has been proven". No citation of proof. Nothing.

Please, back your statements up. We do that, and explain why our proof is true.

Post links to scientific articles and explain them to show you understand what they are doing, and what the flaws in your approach are, so we can have a productive discussion, even though this is no debate forum.

For example, Lord Kelvin once "proved" through a calculation that the Earth was 20 million years old. This calculation was right with the assumptions he made. A pity that those assumptions were shot down, by scientists and Christians alike.

When you finally acknowledge the assumptions that have been made with your precious radiometric dating, we can show you that every assumption of that theory is wrong.

Firsty, no I do not believe in this so called god. I came across this forum when a friend of mine posted a link on facebook. I read the post by cranky old man "8 reasons why god hates denmark" ( I am from denmark my self) at frist I was found it amuseing because it was so ridiculis, I did not think he was being serious (he got a lot of facts wrong) but then I started reading more posts on the forum. I thought this so called god was all about love and forgiveness, but all I see is here on this forum is hate you are what is wrong with religion and the reason religon has to go. At least Jews have a tradition of scriptural enquiry and questioning (so a Jew told me anyway). You guys seem to just take everything literally. Neither Christianity nor Islam quite have the same "je ne sais quoi" of Judaism though. I'm not anti-monotheism, just anti-literalist and against "conversion by the sword". I'm not aware of Jews having converted any great number of people "by the sword" in the past thousand years. Christians and Muslims though, well, you both have quite a nasty history to deal with in terms of religious intolerance-fuelled hatred and violence. I've never been so glad I renounced my baptism as when I read about the shameful history of Christian savagery in Europe and around the world!

Well no, we mostly don't as a rule (well, not unless someone $%&ks with us first that is!) Because we're pluralistic and believe that the divine can manifest in an infininite number of different forms, we tend not to feel the need to foist our own particular form/s of god onto others. If people mess with us though, it is our duty to fight back and maintain our freedom (read the Bhagavad Gita if you don't believe me - you'll find the Hindu instruction in there to fight against evil and oppressive influences - fighting against violent religious hate-mongers would fall under this category. As a Scandinavian Pagan I pretty much concur with this doctrine, especially since we're a related culture and all. We consider it a duty.) Having said this, no religion is perfect and we all have our bad history to deal with (sacrifice, slavery and such), but the mark of a mature faith IMO is one which can face bad ideas and practices from the past head on, deal with them, and grow up. I just worry that you guys are so stuck in a scriptural time warp and that you'll buy anything that's written, so you're not best placed to deal with bad ideas and will therefor do unfortunate things in response to them. All scripture is written by imperfect human beings, and therefor should be subject to analysis and judged on its merit IMO.

Nothing wrong with folk who believe in one god, so long as they let the rest of us get on with doing our thing. I only have a problem with people who think it's ok to kill unbelievers for no other reason than that they're unbelievers. These people are no different in that respect therefor to Islamists in my mind.
