Hello,
I'm not sure I'm in the right place, I was brought up as a Jehovah's witness and I read the bible and pray every day, but I do not understand what I suppose most people on here would consider basic teachings.
For example the trinity which is not taught in Jehovah's Witness' congregation meetings, if someone could explain it to me so I can better understand it, I would be most appreciative, sorry if I say anything out of turn in your opinion, I am still learning and have been taught the bible a different way.
My favourite scripture is John 17:16 'They are no part of the world, just as I am no part of the world' this is something I live by, I do not get involved in politics or fashion cultures, I just live my life as close to bible standards as I am physically capable.

If you're a Jehovah's Witness, then you don't live your life as close to bible standards as physically capable. You don't even vote Republican.

This is a Christian forum, pal. Jehovah Witlesses are not Christians by any stretch.

'Lover of Truth' is a very strange name for a JW. I am a True Christian but I look at information elsewhere. I have looked at the belief of other religions and I have read the views of atheists such a Dawkins and Hitchens. All of these things strengthen my belief in God.

JW only look at their 'new world' bible and are not allowed to look outside of the JW box. All your answers come from within your church or from the watchtower. Thinking is not allowed in your church . What do you think that your leaders are so scared of?

The elders in my congregation, and the governing body are scared of losing control which is why we are as people say 'not allowed to think'

Seriously, do not listen to preachers who often twist it to their own agenda. Read the actual Bible of King James and you will quickly come to understand who God is and what He wants from us. There's no great trick to it. Your eyes will be opened in very short order.

Thanks for the good advice, I need to obtain a copy of the King James Bible, as my mum is devout JW so doesn't see the corruption in the organization

Stick to the King James version as you'll quickly see that other translations aren't accurate and water down the word of God. Start at Genesis and move on.
