I was under the impression that people today might have an easier time reading the bible in Modern English as opposed to Middle English.

Just a thought.

I've never heard of a Bible written in Middle English; the Latin Bible was used during the middle ages.

This sounds like the sort of exciting discovery that would require someone with a high IQ to investigate.

I'll stick with the KJV.

The answer is, we know from the second we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior. Simple.

That is a wonderful question, friend, and the Bible contains its answer.

It is necessary to believe in Christ's temporary sacrifice:

John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

You must repent of all sin:

1st John 3:6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.

And then you can put it to the test by praying. If you are saved, God will answer your prayers categorically. If you are not, He will ignore you, and some may come true by coincidence at best.

John 9:31

Why don't we do a little experiment to see if you are saved? Do you dwell in a mountainous region?

The King James Bible (1611 version) IS NOT in Middle English.

From Wickedpedia: "Middle English describes dialects of English in the history of the English language between the High and Late Middle Ages, or roughly during the three centuries between the late 12th and the late 15th century....The language of England as used after 1470 and up to 1650 is known as Early Modern English."

To illustrate the differences, let's look at a passage from the Bible, first from Wycliffe's 1384 (Middle English), then the KJV1611 (Early Modern English), and finally in Modern English using the Standard King James Version (Pure Cambridge):

Luke 8:1-3 "1 And it was don aftirward, and Jhesu made iorney by citees and castelis, prechinge and euangelysinge þe rewme of God,
2 and twelue wiþ him; and summe wymmen þat weren heelid of wickide spiritis and syknessis, Marie, þat is clepid Mawdeleyn, of whom seuene deuelis wenten
3 out, and Jone, þe wyf of Chuse, procuratour of Eroude, and Susanne, and manye oþere, whiche mynystriden to him of her riches."

Luke 8:1-3 "1 And it came to passe afterward, þt he went throughout euery citie and village preaching, and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdome of God: and the twelue were with him,
2 And certaine women which had bene healed of euill spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene out of whom went seuen deuils,

As you can see the difference between the 1611 and modern versions amount to a few spelling changes, whereas the actual Middle English of the Wycliffe Bible is incomprehensible gobbledygook to most readers nowadays.

Hello Sir Link S. I had a high IQ but not as high as yours. The test was named after a college that one of my children went to. I do not remember the name but it was in California.

I had an accident and my IQ changed I have not had it tested again but I do not think it went up (that is a joke it did not go up). I think that worked out OK because there is a man here named Billy Bob Jenkins and he told me about Proverbs 3:5 which says:

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Billy Bob Jenkins is a very smart man. I think he is smarter than you but he has not told me his IQ so I do not know that for a fact.

Even if you are smart there are some words in the Bible that you will have to look up like "emerods" and "matrix" so have a dictionary handy.

Jack Link, I was hoping for someone that claimed to have an IQ of 150, but I suppose I'll have to settle for a guy that claims to have 140. This is a quick pic I took with my cell phone camera of a formula that I'm currently work on. The picture is probably around 1% of the entire blackboard, but it represents the problem I am working on. Mr Link, don't be discouraged by some of the posters here, I for one really hope you get to be a forum member here. If you make forum member, I can tell the people that I witness to, that our forum has a member that thinks he has a higher IQ than just about every other person in the world!
