Having been out of university for a few years now, I've recently gotten back into scholarly reading in religious studies. Though my program focused most specifically on Islam and Shinto, the root of it was based in religion as a socio-cultural ethnic practice (along the lines of Marx, Durkheim, Geertz, and Bell).
At any rate, I'm not entirely clear what direction to take my studies in. I'm interested in a wide swath of religious topics and communities, primarily from academic perspectives. I'd love some recommendations. The few areas I have dug to deep into that I doubt I'll find much to explore outside of the academy are: Christian Gnosticism, feminist theory, and ritual theory.
As a token of good will, I'm happy to recommend topics and readings to others if I am able. Jump up my ass if your legs are strong enough, brothers.
