Canada is sending frigate HMCS Charlottetown to the waters off Libya amid an international buildup of military forces in response to the violent internal crackdown by Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi's regime

...blah, blah...

the frigate could also be used as a launching platform for special forces missions. But the defence minister said he would not comment on special forces operations.

Also just in! Upon hearing the news, Col. Gadhafi issued a statement to Canada thanking them for the first good belly laugh he's had in two weeks!

I thought the Canuckistani "navy" was just a bunch of canoes and kayaks. How did they manage to not throw all their money away on welfare and socialized Obamacare and scrape enough taxes together to buy an actual ship?

Whoa...slow down here. Libya has had it good under the free-market, capitalist ways of Col. Gaddafi. They are the richest nation in Africa, as well as the most educated (I guess that's like saying you finished top in your special ed class, but you get the point anyways). But, can you imagine the mess Lybia would be in if they went socialist, like Canuckistan?

You think the revolutions and rioting is bad now, wait until they introduce universal healthcare....then you'd see some real rioting from people waiting in line to see their doctor!

Get your facts straight, little one. Prior to when they went all nutty a few weeks ago, Libya had the highest Human Development Index in all of Africa.

It is a standard means of measuring well-being, especially child welfare. It is used to distinguish whether the country is a developed, a developing or an under-developed country, and also to measure the impact of economic policies on quality of life.

So your claim that one man prospered while the rest suffered is patently ridiculous. No people in any country in all of Africa (that's 53 countries) have it as good as the people of Libya. Or had it as good, before they urinated it all away.

yes Libyria had some good point's but still, it's an african country, and therefore the standards doesnt really impress me..

but Ghadafi have been holding Libya with an Iron fist for 41 years, and I find it great that the people wants to stand up against him.

I believe Libyria will prosper in the Future, when they get a democracy.

Check my link again. Libya is ranked 53 out of 168 countries. As in higher than 115 countries, including 6 in Europe. Most notably Russia (ranked 65).

If Canada thinks it's such a good idea to send warships to Libya, why didn't they do it 25 years ago?

As far as I can make out, all they are doing is sending something made of sealskin once all the rest have arrived.

Ghadaffi turned a piece of desert into a paradise and helped spread US influence in the area - suddenly, because the Colonel's having it rough with drug-crazed madmen running riot, the Canukistanis decide to sit 500 miles of the coast in a boat the size that Americans would hire on the local park pond.
