Freehold: Turn Clocks Back Tonight. This is the last time.

    Dear Friends of Freehold:

Tonight is the night we turn our clocks back one hour. This foolish ritual was done last Spring, we set them forward.

My thinking, or my question, is, what's the point? Why did we make the clocks incorrect, only to correct them now?

There is a more serious concern. Our Pastors tell me attendence in Church is affected by the time change. Twice a year, a few people miss services because of this confusion.

The good news is Freehold will not participate in the socialistic daylight savings program ever again. This is the last time you will need to "correct" your clocks.

Thank you again for your continued support.

    Johny Joe Hold, Mayor

That's a beautiful, even poetic, thought, SUV. Thank you.

So-called "daylight savings time" is nothing but communism. The Holy Bible tells us that God created light and dark, and that's good enough for me. Trying to get around that is just unnatural.

Great point, Cranky. I'm sure one of these days the government will prohibit use of sun dials because they cannot control them.

Freehold will base it's "clock" on God's sun, not on Obama's Socialistic Clock-Control Empire.

Re: Freehold: Turn Clocks Back Tonight. This is the last time.

I never set my clocks back or forward. The only time when I alter them at all is every Easter, when I turn all my timekeeping devices off for three days in memory of the three days that Jesus spent in Hell for us. Sure, it's inconvenient never knowing what time it is, but then again He died for our sins, which kind of puts things in perspective.
O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it--for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet! We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is the ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen.

God being truth, justice, goodness, beauty, power, and life, man is falsehood, iniquity, evil, ugliness, impotence, and death. God being master, man is the slave. Incapable of finding justice, truth, and eternal life by his own effort, he can attain them only through a divine revelation... he who desires to worship God must harbor no childish illusions about the matter, but bravely renounce his liberty and humanity.

I once again have to complement Mayor Hold for his vision and leadership in Freehold. Obama and the meddlesome socialists should not be telling anyone how to set their clocks (and where is it in Scripture – if I may digress). I can just see the Iowa attorney general coming after our peaceful Godly town trying to force us to comply. We need to take this to the Supreme Court if necessary.

As it turns out even the communist researchers in Californictia have come to the conclusion that Daylight "Savings" Time wastes more energy. The sodomite tree huggers are wrong once again.

Study: Daylight saving time a waste of energy
March 16, 2010 by Lin Edwards

(PhysOrg.com) -- Daylight saving time is supposed to reduce energy use, but data gathered from a state in the US suggests it actually does the opposite.

The US state of Indiana has 92 counties, but until 2006 only 15 of them adjusted their clocks for daylight saving time, with the remainder keeping standard time all year, at least partly to appease farmers who did not want the change. Then in 2006 the Indiana Legislature decided the entire state should adopt daylight saving time, beginning that spring.

This unique situation enabled professor of economics Matthew Kotchen and his PhD student Laura E. Grant, both from the University of California at Santa Barbara, to study how the adoption of daylight saving affected energy use. They studied over seven million electricity meter readings in southern Indiana every month for three years, and compared the energy consumption before and after the change. The 15 counties that had adopted daylight saving time much earlier were the control group, which allowed them to adjust for the effects of weather extremes over the period.

The result of the study showed that electricity use went up in the counties adopting daylight saving time in 2006, costing $8.6 million more in household electricity bills. The conclusion reached by Kotchen and Grant was that while the lighting costs were reduced in the afternoons by daylight saving, the greater heating costs in the mornings, and more use of air-conditioners on hot afternoons more than offset these savings. Kotchen said the results were more “clear and unambiguous” than results in any other paper he had presented.

Kotchen and Grant's work reinforces the findings of an Australian study in 2007 by economists Ryan Kellogg and Hendrik Wolff, who studied the extension of daylight saving time for two months in New South Wales and Victoria for the 2000 Summer Olympics. They also found an increase in energy use.

Daylight saving was initially introduced, and has been extended, because it was believed to save energy, but the studies upon which this idea was based were conducted in the 1970s. A big difference between then and the present is the massive increase in the take-up of air conditioning. In hot periods daylight saving time means air conditioners tend to be run more when people arrive home from work, while in cooler periods more heating is used.

Professor Kotchen presented the paper at the March National Bureau of Economic Research conference.

Our Lord Jesus Christ followed solar time, in which an hour is 1/12 of whatever the day length happens to be on that day:

John 11:9: Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.

If it's good enough for Him, it should be enough for us.

Of course, that doesn't mean that we pastors are at all ungrateful for the Patek Philippe watches that the church gave us on Pastoral Appreciation Day. Until we can get this country back to God's Law, Christians have to follow secular law, including secular timekeeping.
This church is dedicated to preaching True Christianity™ and the King James Bible exactly as they are, with no alterations to make them more politically correct for modern liberals. If you think that we've misquoted or twisted Scripture or quoted any verse out of context, please explain in detail how we've done so. Otherwise, if what you read on this site offends you, then you're offended by Almighty God and His Word, not by us.

Pastor Isaac, I think you may be over exerting yourself bringing souls to Christ. The part about stumbleth not is the clue. One does not stumble in the day because it is light outside. Day here is contrasted to night which is of some ambiguous length. Sun clocks do not work quite as well in the dark so it was difficult to tell how long any one hour might be at night. So it seems there had been the assumption that the night was as long as the day, so we still would have to divide an hour into 1/24 of a day-night day.

Now I don't know if you have been out camping in the damp, wet, freezing weather lately (I would hope you still receive the proper 5 star hotel allowance from the board of directors of Freehold) but there are times it seems that night will never end.
