Terry Jones announced on the Today Show that there would not be a Koran-burning at Dove World Outreach Center, "not today, not ever"!
Was God telling him, or is he afraid of the 100+ death threats? What manner of Christian fears death? The kind unsure of his salvation!
Meanwhile, even a smug, obnoxious atheist, who believes he goes nowhere but to dust upon death, has the intestinal fortitude to burn a Koran. (Warning: Along with a Bible!)
Thursday, Jones announced that he would cancel the event because local Florida Imam Muhammad Musri had reached an agreement with Imam Faisal Rauf, the man behind the Park51 project (the Ground Zero “mosque”), to relocate. Thursday evening, Jones accused Musri of lying to him, after Rauf stated there was no such agreement. Jones and Musri were then to fly to New York on Saturday to meet with Rauf, with Jones postponing the event pending outcome of the meeting. However, it appears Musri exaggerated his influence over Rauf again — such as having any — and such a meeting never happened.
Instead, Jones appeared on NBC’s Today show and emphatically stated that there would never be a Quran-burning event at his church. “Even though we have not burned one Quran, we have gotten over 100 death threats,” Jones said. “We feel that God is telling us to stop, and we also hope that … maybe that will open up the door to maybe be able to talk to the imam.”
Jones said that his church’s goal was “to expose that there is an element of Islam that is very dangerous and very radical.” Judging from protests across the Muslim world calling for “death to America”, and even the vile comments posted on this very site, over the burning of paper and ink, it would appear he has accomplished that goal.
