Was Pope John Paul II really a friend of Augusto Pinochet?

It's been years since this fake photo circulated on the web. Of course its fake, as there is no way a Saint would ever support a murderer of innocents. There is no doubt that it is a forgery and I'm pretty sure that the Baptists of this forum will agree.

    Mr. Rovagnati,

A timely question but you're looking at the issue from the wrong angle. The question should be if Augusto Pinochet was really a friend with your former chief Papist, Mr. Karol Wojtyła. Mr. Pinochet did not, as far as Prayer and Creation Science have revealed, murder innocents but only targeted communists or those suspected of left-wing tendencies, that is, atheist bad people. In contrast, Mr. Karol Wojtyła was the conductor of countless altar boy rapes, leading them to homosexual behavior and thus, sending them to Hellfire.

Mr. Pinochet was probably a Catholic in Name Only and secretly followed the fundamentalist evangelical doctrine albeit I suspect that He was mostly a Tool of Christ and that both these man are now in the Bottomless Pit. However, under his reign the desolate desert that is Chile thrived and the people got abundance in the absence of the communist Allende or the overrated poet Neruda.

    Acts 10:2
A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.

    Yours in Christ,

That man is no saint. . . And neither is the other one.

Popes are always trying to honey up to famous politicians. To his credit, I've never heard Pinochet turned children over to priests for their pleasure. Pinochet is said to have murdered political opponents. It's more accurate to say he ran a tight ship.

I suppose it depends what you mean by "a friend". It appears from the smirking face that Pope Karol Wotszyznaym was very fond of the General, and delighted to share a balcony with him. But was the friendship reciprocated? Pinochet doesn't look too happy to be there, so I think not.

Normal people generally know when they're unwelcome and make themselves scarce. This is just further evidence of the abnormality of popes.

Could you clarify - which one of them are you calling a murderer of innocents, and which one of them are you calling a saint?

Romeo's answer should take into account the fact that the Vatican supported Pinochet, Franco, Stroessner, Videla, Bordaberry, Trujillo, the Somozas, the Mexican PRI, and the juntas and strongmen of every other pro-Catholic tinpot banana republic south of the border in beanerland. None of these individuals were ever excommunicated by the Vatican or criticized in any meaningful way.
I was sinking deep in sin far from the peaceful shore,
              Very deeply stained within, sinking to rise no more;
But the Master of the Sea heard my despairing cry,
From the waters lifted me, now safe am I!

LOL at this thread. Pinochet wasn't a real person, he was just a cartoon character!

                  Amen Brother Lukes!

The photo of John Paul II and Augusto Pinochet is not "fake" (source - Wikipedia)
