It is well known that the Bible was written by people. Relaying the word and teachings of god, perhaps, but nevertheless written by people. While that has been reasonably proven by countless historians, proving it beyond a shadow of a doubt would take countless years of research and is virtually impossible so I won't even try. Proving something beyond a shadow of a doubt it a daunting task; none of us can even prove that 1 + 1 = 2 (anyone could Google it, but few could prove it on their own), which is a nowhere near as difficult to prove.

In addition to the accounts of historians, the Bible also has several historical errors which a perfect and omniscient god surely wouldn't make. Thus, if the bible is the word of god (and I'm not saying it isn't), the only reasonable explanation for these mistakes is that they were made by people, which again brings us to the conclusion that people wrote the bible.

As for why I'm here, I am here to have open discussion. However, rather than simply holding a calm discussion, you seem quite confrontational and quick to attack conflicting views. Relax.

True, just like it is true that you used a keyboard to create your posting. But just like you created your posting and not your keyboard, God determined what is in the Holy Bible and not the people who did the writing for Him.

What you say here is true. If proof is your point of reference "cogito ergo sum" (I think, therefore I am) is about as far as you will get. But it is also pointless. God is not about proof, God is about faith. Not that there is no proof of God's existence, the volcano in Iceland comes to mine, but to be able to see the proof faith is needed.

As Brother Bathfire already mentioned, you are mistaken about that. If historians have a different story than the Bible it is the historians who are wrong, not the Bible.

No one has attacked you. What you are doing is attempting to disguise debate by calling it discussion. Your trouble is that like all unsaved trash, you like to imagine that there is some wiggle room in God's Holy Word, some way for you to find a point of controversy with which to trip us up and cause us to lose our faith.

That is not going to happen. We love Jesus more than life itself, and we would literally do anything necessary to get you Saved(r).

Finally somebody reasonable and not so quick to resort to insults. Among the inconsistencies:
- In the first chapter of Genesis god creates man and woman at the same time, but in the second chapter he creates man (Adam) first. Adam then does a few things (such as naming all of the animals) and eventually, after god finds that Adam is lonely ("but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him") Eve is created.
- Jeremiah (29:10) predicts 70 years of Babylonian exile but the exile only lasted 59 years
- Isaiah (17:1) says that "Damascus will no longer be a city but will become a heap of ruins". However, as I'm sure you know, Damascus was not destroyed. It is still an inhabited city and is actually thriving (it has experienced substantial growth recently).

If the bible is the word of god and these are not man-made mistakes, then are we to conclude that god is mistaken?

So there is both a short and a long version of that story. That does not make it inconsistent! Many books have a summary on the cover that is less detailed than the actual book, that does not make them inconsistent either.

Isaiah (17:1) says that "Damascus will no longer be a city but will become a heap of ruins". However, as I'm sure you know, Damascus was not destroyed. It is still an inhabited city and is actually thriving (it has experienced substantial growth recently).

That just means that this will happen in the future, so I would advice everyone to stay far away from Damascus!

Is it me, or does the scientific community seem to find cures for things they have ''invented''. yes, polio has been cured but I can not remember it ever mentioned in the bible as a god-delivered malady. These ''scientists'' have never cured one of God's curses. If God doesn't exist and science dictates life why are there still locusts and hemorrhoids, 2 often mentioned punishments in the bible?

I don't know. King David spoke of the lame. Maybe they had polio. Perhaps they didn't have a name for it yet?

science 1st named polio in 1789 - British physician Michael Underwood provides the first clinical description of polio, referring to it as "debility of the lower extremities."

If God would have meant he would have said polio or something we could identify as polio, Again I say it is a disease of science not God.
