    OK Mr. James... i didnt start the offtopicness so i hope it wasnt JUST me who got an infraction.

    So if the Sun is 500ish miles away... What, and how far away, are other stars?

        If i comment on this Mr. James will give me another infraction most likley... But for the record, no, i hate the prius, hence my slander against it in previous posts.

              Sweet Lord Jesus,
              I want to pray for those who persecute me, my Lord.
              Please, treat their children as you treated those of Egypt, when they upset you! (Psalm 135:8-9)
              Dash their little children against the stones for their fathers iniquity! (Psalm 137:8-9)
              Hit them on the cheek, and smash out their teeth! (Psalm 3:7)
              Make their death and descent into Hell swift and terrible! (Psalm 55:15)
              Scatter their broken bodies over the streets of their evil cities, like Benghazi, Amsterdam, Tokyo and Mecca! (Psalm 110:6)
              Praised be Your Glorious Name™.

              Amen.

                    About the sun, I keep hearing all this nonsense from environwackos claiming that we can save the earth with solar energy. I know you'll all agree that isn't possible, especially since the earth needs to be saved from sinners (ie Democrats), not from the global warming hoax.

                      Here is total undeniable proof that the sun is less than 500 miles from earth and much smaller than the earth.

                      Rev 6:13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.

                      The sun is a star and if all the stars can fall to earth and land on it so can the sun. The actual size of the core of the sun is about as big as a very large beach ball just like all the other stars. Other stars that we see are about the size of figs.

                        Good point, Brother TC. And notice how small them stars are on the American flag behind Godly Dick Cheney...

                        ...But them scientists claim that those stars are millions of miles wide! How can anyone believe such nonsense? The sun is at an average distance of about 93,000,000 miles (150 million kilometers) away from Earth. It is so far away that light from the sun, traveling at a speed of 186,000 miles (300,000 meters) per second, takes about 8 minutes to reach us. Like all of the other planets in our solar system, Earth does not travel around the sun in a perfect circle. Instead its orbit is elliptical, like a stretched circle, with the sun just off the center of the orbit. This means that the distance between Earth and the sun changes during a year. At its closest, the sun is 91.4 million miles (147.1 million km) away from us. At its farthest, the sun is 94.5 million miles (152.1 million km) away.

                              Here is the proof:

                              To start off with, the sun is hot enough to glow yellow, so we can use Wein's Displacement Law to determine the temperature.

                              Wein's Displacement Law:
                              Peak Wavelength in meters = displacement constant / temperature in Kelvin

                              Yellow light has a wavelength between 570nm and 580nm, so we'll solve for 575nm. Since we are working with nanometers rather than meters, we'll simplify the math by multiplying the displacement constant by 10^9.

                              575 = 2897768.5/T
                              575 * T = 2897768.5
                              T = 2897768.5/575
                              T = 5039.6° K (8611.6° F)

                              So the sun is about 5039.6° Kelvin.

                              Now, the average temperature of the earth is 59° F, or about 288° K. The mean temperature gradient of the troposphere is 6° K/km, so let's solve for the distance.

                              d = (5039.6 - 288)/6
                              d = 791.9 km (491.1 miles)

                              There you have it. The sun is roughly 491.1 miles overhead. Depending on the exact shade of yellow (whether it's closer to 570nm or 580nm), this figure could be off by as much as 5 miles. However, I don't have a spectrometer handy, and I'm willing to live with an uncertainty of ±5 miles. It's not like I'm planning to visit anytime soon -- my shoes would melt .

                              The LORD is so good to me. Praise the sweet name of Jesus.
