In the Book of Job, we get a good physical description of the firmament, "Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten looking glass?" (Job 37:18). So the firmament is a strong, solid dome-like structure.
    • God created the sun, the moon, and the stars, and set them inside this solid structure called the firmament, to give light to the Earth (Gen 1:14-19)
    • There are multiple places in the Bible where something is described as being able to be seen from everywhere on Earth (Dan 4:10-11, Mt 4:8, Rev 1:7). This would only be possible if the Earth were a flat surface, not if the Earth were spherical or polyhedral or whatever other kind of shape you want to imagine.
    • The Earth is shaped as a circle (Is 40:22).

So there you have it. The Earth is a flat circle with a solid dome overhead, and all the celestial bodies you see are inside of that dome.

    Pastor Billy-Reuben
this shows how stupid you people are, how can you believe the world is flat circle; people all ready flew round the world, other planets are ball shaped so is the earth, or what to say about the moon sometimes there's an other circle? going aren't our circle.
get over it your wrong again and sience proves it!

Ok fist of all, I'm sorry for my late reply. Originally I planned on presenting my calculations today evening, but it turned out a bit more complicated. I will post my detailed calculations tomorrow. Here is an outline:

1: Show that the sun is powered by nuclear fusion instead of by coal, by calculating power output by coal vs nuclear fusion and showing that a coal-powered sun would deplete its burning fuel too fast.

2: Represent the sun's radius (The only weak point in my argument) As a finction of the sun's mass. (Urgh that took forever)

3: Show that our sun's mass has to be above a certain value to initiate nuclear fusion (I will show what gravitational forces are required to start nuclear fusion), as a consequence determining a minimum radius of the sun and hence a minimum distance from the sun.

I hope i can write everything down clearly and correctly, because even i was pretty frustrated with the amount of conversions and unknowns and formulas i had to go through.

        Have a nice evening.
        mark

I proofread it 3 times and still missed this

I can't even see a tractor across my field and you expect me to be able to see a tiny point of light millions of miles away? That makes NO sense. Get a Bible and read the first chapter. It's all there is glorious black and white.

hey, don't usea ad Hominem argument. By my calculations the sun IS FRICKING HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE. If you count the letters in the bible, the sun has more kilometers radius than letters in the bible.

The sun contains 98% of the mass of our solar system. I provide the math, if you can't understand don't embarace yourself and don't comment on it in such and uneducated way. Do the math, its correct. Waiting on pastor billy-R's comment on it though

Says you Einstein. Anyone can write numbers and letters out:

                    23,000+45.98 x X*YZ= "FRICKING HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE"

                    See what I did there?

I got an infraction warning for providing math. I feel like Galileo Galilei.

By the way I did not doubt the bible, with the post I got the warning for! If you want people to close their eyes to all evidence fine, i'm just here to talk with pastor billy-R who does not shout nonsence whenever a number excedes 3rd grade level, but he actually tries to understand it. Please take him as an example for he is the kindest person i've encountered here so far.

                      Also you can't use a "," and a "." in a number, either its 12.4 or 12,4 but not 12,4+12.4 =x
                      its invalid notation.

Mark, again, there are assumptions you made. You are assuming the Sun is a giant ball. You are assuming that this ball has a non-stop nuclear fusion occurring that no scientist can duplicate. There are two of many assumptions. You'll agree with that, right?

Now, what if it were coal? We know coal burns, right? What if, instead of the Sun being a ball or a flat disk, it was shaped like a hot dog wiener, only trillions of miles long. However, we only see the wiener from the rounded end. No one has ever see the back part. Maybe it burns like a road flare and the obscures the back. You have to admit, this is a possibility. If the wiener was long enough, there could be so much coal as to last for eternity (or at least as Gods wants it to).

You have to admit, it is possible.

                          • Re: The Sun: Millions of miles away?

We had space-probes fly around the sun so we know it is round.
We know nuclear fusion is occouring inside the sun due to gravity compressing the helium and hydrogen inside so strongly that they undergo fusion in order to counterbalance gravitational compression (hydrostatic equilibrium).
We know the sun is mainly hydrogen, due to spectral analysis (certain elements emmit a special wavelngth of light, we receive a lot of hydrogen based wavelengths from the sun, not Carbon based ones).
We know it is not coal due to all of the above and because 10^30kg of coal would burn out within 1250 years considering how much energy the sun radiates. I can show you the math if you promise not to wine about it again like every time.

There are no assumption these are facts. You are free to deny facty. Where in the bible does it say the sun is made of coal or is not round. It only says that the sun is a "light" and is placed in the "dome" surrounding the earth.

I'm lucky if i get away with only a warning for this one. I'm not arguing against god, i'n just trying to say that the sun can be very very big and far away. I doubt the "dome" surrounding the earth has specific measurments or does it?
