So rather than using a version of the Bible translated directly from the original language like the "Old Jerusalem" or a modern translation of the "Vulgate" you use a version commissioned by a king to support the government supported church with the slant to support the government's policies?

What are you talking about? We follow the only Bible that is written by God, the KJV!

After all, God says so himself, in the KJV:

2 Timothy 3:16:
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness

And who would know better, God or some confused atheist who is just passing by?

Likely, they are. Other "Bible" versions twist Scripture until It says something entirely different. People who do that go to Hell:

The Bible was originally written in Greek. The Vulgate came later. The Old Jerusalem Bible is a catholic Bible translated from the Vulgate in the 1966..

I'm very familiar. The point is, the Vulgate (depending on age or generation of translation) is still a more original source, simply due to age. I am also the first to admit that after generations of translating, it's easy to put a papist slant on the writings contained within.

The King James is similar to the Geneva Study Bible. It just doesn't contain the anti-papist margin notes. Other than that, there is little difference.

Actually, no. I'm no papist. I simply used the Old Jerusalem and Vulgate as examples.

Not always. I parallel read between the KJV, NASB, ESV and occasionally Young's literal, but the KJV will always be the best.

I guess that's the point that I was originally making to Talitha. I can respect a bible scholar that is willing to gather various translations and editions and cross reference them. To say that any other than KJV is blasphemous is a bit short sighted.

Remember that in the last 2000 years, the bible has been comissioned and translated into hundreds of languages, and this work was done by man. Man is imperfect. Without spell checkers, definitive lingust translations that account for local dialects and words with multiple meaning or multiple translations into another language; every time you translate or simply copy a book of that size, minute changes, accidental and purposeful easily occur. There are many different "versions" of Christianity. I mean, look at your reaction to my words, when you thoght I was a papist Christian. Without knowing my full intent, or full idea, you were willing to judge my words, and associate them with a set of ideals that do not fully line up with yours.

Yet you are both Christians, with the same beginning roots. The simple change of "any" to "all" which in some languages are the same word, but the inflection is what differentiates the two words could change entire passages of the bible. A simple innocuous mis-translation, and you could have after 2 or 3 centuries of difference, a schism in doctrine and dogma miles apart.

When Cyril and Methodius went ro the Rus people and brought them Christianity, they didn't have a written language. To give them the Greek bible, he had to first create a written language for them, then translate the Bible into thier newly written language. Althought the Slavonic Bible is a direct translation from the bible of his era, it is not widely used outside of Slavic nations, or used for translations outside of the Eastern Orthodox church, even though it predates most Western European translations by several centuries.

I would also point out that most Christianity follows the edicts of the First Council of Nicaea (in 325 AD) yet two points are lost:

1) Gnostic/Arian Christianity which was condemned at the Council had just as large of a population following but had less clergy in positions of voting power.
2) Many of the decisions made by the Nicaean Council were in the end, decided by a simple popular majority vote.

Had Arius a larger political backing, Christians today would be Gnostics rather than Trinitarians. This was a set of decisions made by men, not God, not Jesus. Men. Men with political agendas and personal predjudices.

Any teaching that is somone else's interpretation or personal belief that is stated forth as "fact" is rediculous. Anything said by the apostles, or thier followers, or thier followers' followers...or decisions made by men 300 years removed have to be questioned and taken with a grain of salt. If Christ didn't say it, who is man to decide what Jesus' intent was?

It was written by scribes and scholars employed by Robert Barker, and commissioned by King James for the Church of England.

It wasn't even the first Bible translated into English. It was made because the Puritans took issue with earlier translations.

JGV is one of the most common versions used by western Christianity, but it is by no means the only.
