I don't keep changing my name, the board managers do it for me. I haven't yet figured out how to change it back or even if I have the authority to change it. And I see that this board is big on authority.



People like me who think for ourselves. Evolution has instilled various forms of altruistic behavior in various species including our own. We also have a rich history that tells us what works and what doesn't. Why throw all this away to go back to 66 books that was written thousands of years ago?



Your mother was right! Even the pilgrims who settled this country from England must have known, as did Christopher Columbus, that the world was round. The authors of the books of the Bible didn't know that, but we can forgive their ignorance. We cannot forgive modern people who go back to that ignorance looking for authority.

So you know better than God and so did my mother who did her best to steer me away from God's word and send me to Hell just so I could be with her forever as she clearly had accepted her own damnation.

I'm not looking for your forgiveness. I'm looking for God's forgiveness. When are you going to get that through your head that a True Christian looks to God, not the world for Salvation?

I don't know whether liberal Christians can back up their claims or not. I don't care. I don't look to this old flawed document for any kind of authority. I just know I am more comfortable in the company of liberal Christians than I am in the company of reactionary Christians.

Try this simple experiment. Take a glass with edges straight up and down. Use a tape measure to measure the diameter. Make sure that you measure it straight across the middle of the rim. Then take a tape measure and measure around the outer edge of the glass at the rim. The circumference will be a little more than three times the diameter. You can do the math. It will come out to about 3.14. Taking error of measurement into account, you will get better results with a larger circular object, such as a table top.

It doesnt sound like you are talking about a glass there, I think its a bit disgusting that inuendo!

What profession are you in? Engineer? Architect? Math teacher? You can't get into any of these professions using pi=3.

Did you try? I thought you liked proof for your statements? Aren't you supposed to say: "Without having any evidence on the matter, my hypothesis is that you will find it very hard to get into such a profession, if not impossible, by being a devout Christian."

The value of pi is precise but cannot be expressed in less than an infinite number of decimal places. It is of a class of numbers the ancient Greeks called irrational numbers. There are an infinite number of irrational numbers, including the square root of most numbers. Yet each irrational number has a precise value whether we can express it or not.

I know these things because I am interested in mathematics and I studied math in high school.

I read that post. You truly have my sympathy. I wish harm to no one. I also feel sorry for your father. As you know, I don't attribute the accident to God's will. It has nothing to do with whatever sins you or your father may have committed. It's just bad luck and it sucks. Get well soon.

I said that no woman deserves to be raped and I got a 100 point infraction for that (never expires) for being confused. Yet, according to your beliefs the rape could be a deserved punishment from God, who then turns around and inflicts harm on her again for refusing his remedy.

That may have been how things were done when Leviticus was written but it is not the right thing for the society in which we live.

Please show me where the Bible says that it has an expiration date, and that God's Law no longer applies. And that it's now OK to murder, and steal, and rape.

By your secular humanist 'morality', perhaps it is. But God determines what is Justice, and He says that if a woman is raped, the man who raped her is required to pay off her father and marry her.

Why, you ask?

The father could have commanded a dowry for his lovely virgin daughter. Since she is no longer a virgin, he cannot do so. Thus, the rapist must pay a fine to the father to compensate for his loss of income and damaged property.

The woman is no longer marriage material, having been humbled. Therefore, the rapist is required to marry her and provide for her, for the rest of her life. This prevents her being a burden on her father, and spares her the shame of being an 'old maid' that nobody wants to marry.

I said that no woman deserves to be raped and I got a 100 point infraction for that (never expires) for being confused. Yet, according to your beliefs the rape could be a deserved punishment from God, who then turns around and inflicts harm on her again for refusing his remedy.

If God is all-powerful and all-knowing, then He knows that a woman is going to get raped and can prevent it if He wishes. He does not prevent it. Therefore, it logically follows that He wants it to happen, or at least does not object.

I guess I hit a nerve when I asked if your mother taught you that the world is round. I know I would be deeply distressed if I had a son who was slipping into such a hell hole of weird beliefs, throwing away so much of what we have learned in the last few thousand years. I don't believe your mother was trying to send you to Hell or accepted her own damnation. But then what do I know?

No matter how hard you try, you can never get into the mindset of the ancient Hebrews. You can never read the 66 books in the same spirit in which the original readers read them. You cannot even understand the King James Bible in the same way that 17th century Englishmen could understand it. Times and the language have changed.

The liberal Christians are lying to you (or themselves) in order to be your friend. They think you are unworthy of God's grace because you are an atheist or they simply are not True Christians in any way. They are hypocrites if they even give you the time of day unless witnessing to you.

We will not be hypocrites. What other evidence is there for God but the Bible?

It's not that I don't think the Bible is meant to be taken literally. I just don't believe the Bible. There is no proof of the validity of the Bible outside the Bible itself. The secular morality to which most of us subscribe still condemns murder, theft, and rape. If anything, the Bible is more lenient toward rape than the modern moral and legal codes.

Women, are you paying attention to this?

In this country, we no longer regard the daughter as the property of the father, we no longer attach the same value to virginity, we do not pay dowries. We punish the rapist whether the victim is a virgin or not. We believe in marriage for love and we no longer require that every woman must have a husband.

The laws in the Bible were only a subset of the laws available to the Hebrews and in many cases other remedies applied. If we apply Biblical law, we are not only applying law that pertains to a society that no longer exists, we are not even applying it with the same sophistication as the ancients applied it.

You seem to be a lady with an appreciation for the finer things of life. I can only hope that the designation "Unsaved trash" means you don't believe the church trash and not that you are secretly saved and they are holding you guilty until proven innocent.

I chose an object that even True Christians™ would be familiar with and one with an uncomplicated shape. The two relevant dimensions are the diameter across the top and the circumference. I suspect that you are thinking of a third dimension of a more complex case not relevant to the true value of pi.

If you are indeed a "floozy" as the church elders seem to suspect, there is a Biblical remedy for your condition, provided the gentleman in question is eligible for marriage, is of the same race as you, and you truly love him.

Yes, and I thank God daily for the good True Christian™ pastors of Landover Baptist Church to help us know the Bible in the way the Good Lord intended!

Women are created to be help meets of men, not to compete with them as if we are men (Genesis 2:18). We are created to glorify our husbands (Proverbs 12:4) and if God chooses to redeem a terrible rape with a Godly marriage than who are you, who am I, to say God is wrong?

You may think it's a terrible thing to endure, being forced to lie, or bend over, and take a stranger's thrust inside you while you are helpless, perhaps with a gun to your head or a knife to your throat, or maybe the threat of some horrible retribution of you don't succumb to the advance, but this life is TEMPORARY! What is a few moments of horror for an eternity of God's presence for ETERNITY?

We cannot know the will of God and so to refuse to follow this one command, this one that seems to go against our moral code today, is to avoid God's reward for eternity. For all you know, the rapist will be converted by his wife's good and Godly nature (1 Peter 3:1) and be saved himself and convert hundreds of souls to Christ!
