  • Children are Born Rotten Sinners, That's Why We Whack Them

It bugs the heck our of me when I about about some new book on raising children. Now this TD Jakes guy, who has a 30,000 member church in Dallas, has written a book in which he claims humans, especially children, are born forgiving.

If you whack a kid, he says, the kid will forgive you in a few minutes.

Well, so what. We know that children sin even when they are small. Do they "Honor there Father and Mother" when they poop in the diapers? I should say not.

I'd say to Jakes, preach your silly sermons, but leave theology to the pastors here at Landover Baptist.

T D Jakes recently released a new book on forgiveness that has at least one critic accusing the renowned preacher of denying the doctrine of original sin
Isaiah 24:1-3 Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty (2)...as the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him. (3) The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken his word.

Ever read the book "Train Up A Child"? It's written by an Amish, but it's still a very good book on parenting. I agree with it completely. It should be required reading for people having a baby.

My wife and I are undecided on discipling our two teenage boys, age 14, and 16. They were caught stealing money from our home and lying about their behavior. The money was used for sinful purposes.

I was punished with corporal punishment until I was 17. I favor this for our boys due to their behavior. My wife disagrees.

As head of the household I have told my family I would pray and seek guidance. My wife has been over my knee before and I am thinking I need to show my family the word of God will be followed in this home.

Your thoughts, please. My family and their place with God is at stake.

God states quite clearly that children should be beaten.
Proverbs 13:24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

Proverbs 23:13 Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.

Hebrews 12:7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

2 Samuel 7:14 I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:

John 5:46,47 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

The boys are going to be whipped this afternoon after school. Their mother may not agree but I will not let my children disobey and lie.

They will be sorry, and bruised, but I will offer Biblical quotes to ensure they know this is the plan of God.

There will be a discussion with my wife as to her place in the home.

Call me a modern parent but, back in the 60s, when Mrs Bathfire was taking care of my 8 sons and some daughters, I didn’t find it too necessary to thrash them regularly. The point is that, as God punishes us for our transgressions, I am Christ (1Co:11:3) to Mrs Bathfire and the children and as such must hand out the vengeance that The Lord says I should.

Obviously there was some deep thought went on after the episode that led Josiah Bathfire (aged 9) to have to be institutionally confined for life with brain damage after one particular episode where he was unbearably insolent – but that is my punishment for allowing him to reach that state, and I must bear it and reflect upon it.

Being a husband and a father is not easy, God cuts us no slack, but I hope that I have obeyed His orders.

perhaps if you place this on your refrigerator it will help everyone get "ini the mood" for proper child rearing.
