Where I come from "flat landers" are either city folk or Yankees. Probably both. Do you know how to double clutch a tractor or top a row of tobacco?

Indeed, Marshall, I have double clutched a few tractors in my day. They don't grow much tobacco around here, but I have spent my share of time in sorghum fields. Thank you for showing an interest in me. Your expression of Christian love to a new person on the forum is just lovely.

I have such a warm feeling when I visit this site. Takes my mind of the reality of my situation here at the compound.

Don't feel bad, Marshall, lots of folks get a late start. I even heard of someone once who didn't get on a tractor until almost 13! Hard to imagine, I know. My twin brother and I used to have to drive the tractor together, because at six years old one of us couldn't reach everything we needed to reach, had to do it as a team. Really helped us form a close bond until he fell into the path of the mower and I couldn't get the tractor stopped quickly enough. He was never the same after that, but eventually liked his new nickname of "Lefty". After that he ALWAYS sat on the left side of the seat and I sat on the right side.

Oh, the memories that brings back. Hey, did you ever drive through a swarm of hornets while driving a tractor? Or accidentally put the tractor, wagon, and 40 bales of hay in a creek?

Glad there's someone else here with an agricultural background.

Never dropped a load of bales in a creek before but when I was 15 I did get my fathers new 644 Deere mired in a mudhole and broke the left rear axle and had to call him to pull me out. He whooped me for an hour and a half with his belt.
I still have a dark stripe or two from it on my back.
I honestly think if I would have lost a bale track in a creek he would have retarded me with an ax handle like he did my cousin Juniper. Juni took a can of yellow and spray painted my fathers chickens and before my uncle could get there my father beat him stupid with a snake cane.

You sound like you had the benefit of a loving, caring family also. Isn't that a special blessing. You know, not everyone was as fortunate as you to live in a loving, caring family like that. I can tell that the love you felt in your home has been responsible for building your character today.

Hey, thanks for pointing that out. That DOES look a lot like a rainbow. What it is supposed to be is a drawing of what my lip looked like after my dad got through with me when I put the tractor in the creek. And, now that you mention it, I think there was a little more black and blue in my lip then, and the colors weren't in such straight lines. I've seen pictures that the Child Protective Services took, I couldn't actually look in the mirror because my eyes were swollen shut. I just drew that from memory, trying to recall the good times.

Boy, if you think it looks too much like a rainbow, maybe I should change avatars. What do you suggest?

And, your comment about Homers liking rainbows, I think you're right. I'm pretty sure Homer Simpson likes rainbows. My uncle Homer Lander (and even his brother Gomer Lander) liked rainbows.

It is amazing how anyone can claim to be a hippy after the utter failure of their movement.

Just look at how wrong they are;

• Economy: they claim greed is "bad". Just look at the success stories on Wallstreet.
• Environment: whining pansies. Air has never been cleaner.
• War: they claim violence just leads to violence. Well what about Iraq, hello? Vietnam is at peace now.

War and perpetual economic growth are the natural state of man. Only a non-Christian would think this is wrong somehow.
