Sad news for country music fans: Daniel Wayland Seals, the Texas-born, CMA-award-winning singer who piled up 11 No. 1 songs between 1985 and 1990, passed away yesterday after a battle with mantle cell lymphoma. Initially known to pop fans as the "England Dan" half of England Dan and John Ford Coley, who had a No. 2 single in 1976 with the soft-rocking classic "I'd Really Love to See You Tonight," he went on to forge an impressive solo career in Nashville.


Over 16 studio albums, the gentle, bearded crooner in the ten-gallon hat produced some 20 hits, including "Bop," the duet "Meet Me In Montana" with Marie Osmond," "Everything That Glitters (Is Not Gold)" and "You Still Move Me." Music clearly runs in the family: Older brother Jim was in Seals & Crofts, and several cousins are well-known country singers and songwriters. Extreme skier McConkey dies in jump in Italy

Extreme skier Shane McConkey was killed jumping off a cliff with a parachute while filming a movie in Italy. He was 39.

His sponsor Red Bull confirmed his death Thursday.

McConkey was in Corvara, Italy, on a ski-BASE jump when he had a mid-air malfunction, Red Bull said in a statement. Italian emergency responders arrived within minutes and pronounced him dead at the scene, according to the sponsor.

“Shane loved life and innovated both sport worlds he touched, skiing and B.A.S.E. Jumping,” Red Bull spokesman Patrice Radden said in a statement. “Unfortunately, the sport he pioneered also carries inherent risks.”

McConkey founded the International Free Skiing Association and had grown popular in recent years for his BASE jumping competitions and big-mountain film exploits.

During his career he won the IFSA world tour of freeskiing in 1996 and 1998, and finished second in the 1999 Winter X Games Skier X competition. In 2001, Skiing Mag listed him as the top skier in North America, and Powder magazine readers voted him skier of the year three times.

ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- Bishop Earl Paulk, a charismatic preacher brought down by a series of sex scandals, has died. He was 81.
Bishop Earl Paulk died this weekend at 81.





Paulk died near midnight Saturday at the Atlanta Medical Center, a nursing supervisor confirmed to CNN. The bishop had been at the hospital for several days, she said.
Paulk's death came after an "extended and horrible battle with cancer," Paulk's nephew, Bishop Jim Swilley, wrote in a blog post.
Paulk founded the Chapel Hill Harvester Church in Decatur, a suburb of Atlanta. It quickly grew to become one of the first megachurches in the country. Paulk also had his own television show.
But his success as a preacher was overshadowed time and again by allegations of sexual impropriety.

I ran into this clown a couple of years ago at the Big Valley Jamboree. I'm 95% positive he was a homosexual. On top of that, he ate every last banana muffin at the after-party. Head of oldest sect of Tibetan Buddhism passes away

Dharamsala, March 27 - The head of the oldest school of Tibetan Buddhism, His Eminence Penor Rinpoche, breathed his last today around 8.20 PM (Indian Standard time) at his residence at Namdrol ling monastery in Bylakuppee, his aides told phayul, and not at hospital as reported earlier.

Rinpoche was admitted to Columbia Asia Hospital, Bangalore on March 24 following a chronic illness. On March 27, 2009, many high lamas of the Nyingma tradition as well as various other dignitaries received blessings from him at the intensive care unit of the hospital, a press statement issued by his monastery said.

The khenpos, tulkus and faculty members sought audience with Rinpoche and prayed before him. After the prayer, without any sign of pain he smiled and passed away into parinirvana state for the benefit of sentient beings. Presently, he is in thugdam (meditative state), and the parinirvana prayers are being performed by his followers worldwide, his aides said.

Voice of Tibet radio reported that a long life offering (tenshug) was held at Namdrol ling monastery in the wee hours of March 27 in the presence of Ven. Tsering Phuntsok, the minister for religion of the exile Tibetan government; members of parliament from Nyingma school, representatives of the department of home in south India, among others.

Rinpoche left the hospital at 3.30 PM for his monastic seat Namdroling in Bylakuppee after his condition deteriorated, according to his aides.

Penor Rinpoche held the position of the head of Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.

Kyabjé Drubwang Pema Norbu Rinpoche was born in 1932 in Powo region of Kham, Eastern Tibet. He was the 11th in the Palyul lineage of the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism.

I admit to having been extraordinarily aroused when I awoke to the news that God had (predictably) stricken the heart of satan's kingdom on earth with a large earthquake. I was a bit disappointed to hear that Rome was spared.

I renew my promise to every True Christian(tm) on earth: when the day comes (and it will) that Jesus leaves the Vatican in a smoking heap of rubble an human effluence, I'll fly us all out there so that we can pisseth on the debris. Shout Glory!!

Monday’s earthquake, with a 6.3 magnitude, was not the first to strike the central Italian city. In 1703, a quake destroyed much of the medieval historic center, which was then rebuilt in the Baroque style, according to Alessandro Clementi, who has written several books on the history of L’Aquila, which was founded in the 13th century and had its moment of greatest socioeconomic importance in the Renaissance.

If they had wanted their buildings to withstand earthquakes they would have built them better. Notice how all of the surrounding buildings are unscathed? This is one way the Church puts the fear of God into its followers.
