    What's in YOUR prayer closet?

Mr. Franklin down the road asked me to help arrange his young Mary Ann's prayer closet, as his wife (poor thing) died recently and he's now thrust into being more active in the raising of the child, now.

He's told me the space under the stairs where they used to keep kindling is getting a door added to it, and he likes the idea of knowing Mary Ann will be safe in there when he goes out, or has his friends over, or whathaveyou.

Besides a Bible, of course, what else should we put in a prayer closet for girls? I'm thinking a few cookbooks might not be out of place, and a notebook with pencil attached for menu planning....as she's going to have to take over cooking for the family now. I mean, she can pray over the recipe cards that the meals turn out right, when not studying the Bible verses?

Any ideas would be very appreciated : )

A light may be helpful, and also a chamber pot. Don't want her making a mess.

For that matter, why not convert the space into a powder room? That way, it can serve a purpose when she is not praying.

Yes, an electric light would be good. When they were only stocked with candles, I remember we had a rash of girls setting fire to their prayer closets as a supposed "call for help"

This seemed to usually take place around Day Three, if I remember correctly. But it could have just been a coincidence?

Mrs. Hutchins keeps towels and stick-um in hers.

She also has one of those personal massagers (the 12") for when she is stiff and needs to loosen up.
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?
Numbers 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Matthew 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Matthew 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

I would suggest a good set of knee pads.

Brother James, there must have been a sale on that day, Abigail also has a personal massage device. I often wonder if I work her too hard, she seems to use it constantly and it costs me a bundle in replacement batteries.

They seem to come in a lot of different shapes, colours and textures. I'm not sure why the end needs to wiggle but it seems to keep her docile so it's worth having.

We had the same issue, a ten pack of 'C' batteries would be exhausted over a weekend. So I bought the Mrs. a AC adapter. Our electric bill went up only $20 a month, a far cry from the expense of all those batteries.

Brother James, this one is good - it has its own built in motor, no need for batteries or adaptors. Mrs S says it keeps her calm while she's praying (though she does sound rapturous after a few minutes of praying in her closet).

                  Priced right too.
I hope they do not have that pesky three prong plug (it is a pain to always have to cut off the grounding prong).

I'm thinking a good First Aid Kit would be necessary, too.

From what I've heard you Menfolk say, sometimes the older daughters need some real old-fashioned help getting into those closets, and accidents happen. (They're so docile at the beginning. Then they hit that age...)

I found this extra kit in the attic if anyone needs it. I don't know what's in the bottle.
