He's a false Christian (universalist) "pastor" who preaches lies about the Bible. Lies that make people feel good, and say what they want to hear.

Bell says, "This is not just the same old message with new methods. We're rediscovering Christianity as an Eastern religion, as a way of life. Legal metaphors for faith don't deliver a way of life. We grew up in churches where people knew the nine verses why we don't speak in tongues, but had never experienced the overwhelming presence of God."[9]

Bell's most recent book, Love Wins, caused a major controversy within the evangelical community. As for proving Jesus spent time with sinners; I didn't disagree. I said He did not "hang out" with them, but He witnessed to them because they were the ones needing guidance. It is rather difficult to witness to someone without spending time with him.

How does showing he ate with them prove anything otherwise?

The liberal, universalist theologian who talks about the Apostles as simple fishermen who weren't smart enough to be rabbis. The story you heard, as inspiring as you may find it, is pure speculation (ie, unfounded Biblically speaking).

People here are fairly judgemental of non-Christians. The fact that one of the smilies is muslims having bombs dropped on them might be a clue. Yes, I know this is one of the harsher Christian forums. But I decided I'd give it a go anyways and see if I can contribute to some topics here or show members that not all atheists are bad people. You seem like a very tolerant, compassionate and kind Christian. You truly try to live like Jesus.

Adulteress, not prostitute. Try reading the Bible for yourself, son, instead of relying on the false teachings of false preachers. That is beside the point, however.

Note what Jesus says to the harlot in verse 11: "Go, and sin no more." Jesus didn't say, "Sure, keep on being a harlot. Sinning is fine." He said to stop sinning.

As True Christians™, the possibility of committing sin is not even possible.

I John 3:6-9
Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

So as you can see, if anyone is to cast the first stone, it is us - the perfect, Blood-bought children of the Lamb.

The only reason they were sinners is because Jesus had not yet made His temporary sacrifice, enabling man to have his sins washed away by the Blood of the Lamb. Notice how the instructions on whether to associate with sinners were updated following His temporary sacrifice:

But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

But it's evidence that he did, no? After all, we never see him eating with with the pharisees, which were the "pastors" of his day.

Well if the apostles weren't fishermen originally, than what were they? Yes some of the apostles obviously had other professions, but there is only one that is recorded of having an upper class job, which was Luke (a doctor.) There was nothing especially amazing about the apostles, except that the were called by Jesus.

So to get back to the root of this argument, I don't see what is wrong with spending time with atheists. After all, I don't think many atheists have converted from what is done on this site. (Note I didn't say none, just many.)

That depends on whether you are trying to win their souls for His Kingdom or not. Trying to convert sinners to Christianity is encouraged. Indeed, it is not even an option, if you take your faith seriously.

Yes, of course we should witness to atheists. But some people are so closed up to the gospel that you must first win their trust before even beginning to plant seeds in their heart. Sometimes, witnessing may not be exactly the way it is conducted on this site.

Unsaved scum? Whatever. I guess if I disagree with some of your biblical perspective I can't be a Christian, huh? Judging people isn't always the best way to witness to them.

Your personal insults are not the best witness to outsiders. I'm trying to bring a fresh perspective here, and maybe even get a few unsaved lurking on the forums to the think that maybe not all Christians are like you guys. I hope and pray and atleast some of you might wake up and realize the damage you are doing to Christianity.

We make no bones about the fact not all Christians are like us. We point it out all the time. There are lots of false Christians just like you who would rather play a trick on people and sucker them into Christianity by pretending it's all warm and fluffy just to get them to feel good about you and be your friend. Then you can get them to think just like you and give you kudos.

We're not here to make friends; we're here to put the word of God in front of people without prejudice and we have the confidence they will read it and make the right choice if oily little apologists like you are put in their place. Why are you embarrassed about your God? Why do you want to hide things about Him? Answer those questions with genuine introspection and you might get closer to the Truth(r).
