    Re: Basic Recipes Needed

I think it's time for an overdue update. Michel has been doing very well and has learned incredibly quickly. So far, she has mastered the art of perfectly boiling eggs and making sandwiches, pickles, bread, and soups. Her pie crust has greatly improved, and she has made 4 or so good cherry pies. On Sister Elizabeth's suggestion, she has given the pies she made yesterday and this morning to her her father to try and he has enjoyed both of them. Please pray for her to make a perfect one tomorrow so we can move on to something else.

Also, I'd like some advice. Should I teach her to cook steak or bake apple pie next? The man she is being courted by enjoys both and she has a history of not doing a good job with either one. Just to be clear, she would be cooking the steak in the oven, as her father doesn't allow her or her mother to use the grill.

    Thank you for your prayers!
And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

The steak is easy: Pre heat the oven at 55°C (131°F). Sear the steak in a really hot pan for one or two minutes each side with a liberal amount of cleared butter, wrap it in aluminium foil and put it in the oven for 10-15 minutes. Thinner steaks need less time, bigger steaks need more time.

Toss some crushed peppercorns in the pan in which you seared the steak, fry them a bit at low-medium heat and then add some cream or crème fraîche. Reduce the sauce, unwrap the steak and add any remaining moisture from the steak to the sauce. Put some salt on the streak, put some salt in the sauce to bring it up to taste and serve together.
Jeremiah 6:21 Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will lay stumblingblocks before this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall fall upon them; the neighbour and his friend shall perish.

Best wishes for the people in Ukraine.

Dear Esther, I told you in our visitor messages, but I strongly advise you to go with the steak. What type of woman is she if she cannot provide a steak to her man?

Praise Jesus, she has baked another cherry pie that has been approved by her father!

How very true, Sister! I will speak to her father about it tonight. From what I've heard, her suitor has been wanting her to make steak for a week or so.

Get out of the kitchen, Mister! You are intruding on a ladies' job, and as a man, God designed you to be doing greater things! Let us ladies handle these jobs.

Apparently most chefs are still male (link). Besides, I really like cooking (and eating). Washing the dishes is not one of my favourites but I still have to do it since my cooking results in massive amounts of dirty dishes.

I think cooking a good meal (and eating it) is one of the greatest things!

Today the fish guy at the market had these shiny fishes:

I bought four of them and had them make fillets of them. This is quite a tasty fish so it can be combined with stronger tastes. The recipe:

Cut a pound of cherry tomatoes in half, toss them in a bowl with some Italian herbs to your liking, two teaspoons of powdered sugar and half a cup of olive oil. Transfer them to a baking dish and put them in the oven at 100º C (210º F) to dry. This takes about 2,5 hours. Let them cool and set apart.

Cut some potatoes up in wedges, put them in a baking tray with some garlic, rosemary, salt, pepper and oil and put them in the oven at 175º C (350º F) for 40 minutes or until done. Using a sharp knife, slightly cut the skin of the fish, this prevents the fillets from curling. Gently fry in a bit of cleared butter.

Put some light mixed salad on a plate, add some dried tomatoes and put the fish on top. Drizzle the remaining butter over the salad and serve with the potato wedges.

Leftover dried tomatoes will keep good for a week in the refrigerator.
Jeremiah 6:21 Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will lay stumblingblocks before this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall fall upon them; the neighbour and his friend shall perish.

Best wishes for the people in Ukraine.

Satan is a tricky devil, see John 10:10. "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." So therefore, cooking is only a step to leading you to sin and be a homo... But there is good news! Jesus has come to rescue you and save you! All you have to do is accept Him, and read and obey the ENTIRE KJV Bible. It's the that hard; I even included a link! http://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/

                        Hello Mrs. Elizabeth,

Thank you for the link to the KJV, but I already have a nice Bible (KJV). The publishers even took the effort to print Jesus´ words in red. That certainly made it easier to find John 10:7-18 from which you took your quote, unlike some verses I liked and wanted to find somewhat faster where I had to use a marker pen.

Would you be so kind to explain what John 10:10 has to do with cooking, the role of women and men in the household, restaurants or homosexuality? I am pretty sure there is scripture that actually addresses these issues in more detail?

                          Yes, there is:

1 Samuel 8:13 And he will take your daughters to be confectionaries, and to be cooks, and to be bakers.

Daughters. Not sons. That means cooking is for women.

                          I hope that was helpful.

                            Hi Basilissa,

Thank you for your reply. 1 Samuel 8:13 speaks about the daughters, not about the men. It states: ¨And he will take your daughters to be confectionaries, and to be cooks, and to be bakers¨. Nowhere it says men should not prepare a meal.

No, it doesn't. It just says that cooking is a female role.

However, the Bible also tells us that eating a meal prepared by a man can have dire consequences:

                              Genesis 25:27-34
27 And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents.
28 And Isaac loved Esau, because he did eat of his venison: but Rebekah loved Jacob.
29 And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint:
30 And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom.
31 And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright.
32 And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me?
33 And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.
34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.

See what happens when a man prepares food? It can cost another man his birthright.

Unfortunately, Isaac really liked food prepared by his hairy son Esau (unfortunately for Esau):

                              Genesis 27:1-41
1 And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said unto him, My son: and he said unto him, Behold, here am I.
2 And he said, Behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death:
                              3 Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison;
4 And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die.
5 And Rebekah heard when Isaac spake to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt for venison, and to bring it.
6 And Rebekah spake unto Jacob her son, saying, Behold, I heard thy father speak unto Esau thy brother, saying,
7 Bring me venison, and make me savoury meat, that I may eat, and bless thee before the LORD before my death.
8 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to that which I command thee.
9 Go now to the flock, and fetch me from thence two good kids of the goats; and I will make them savoury meat for thy father, such as he loveth:
10 And thou shalt bring it to thy father, that he may eat, and that he may bless thee before his death.
11 And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man:
12 My father peradventure will feel me, and I shall seem to him as a deceiver; and I shall bring a curse upon me, and not a blessing.
13 And his mother said unto him, Upon me be thy curse, my son: only obey my voice, and go fetch me them.
14 And he went, and fetched, and brought them to his mother: and his mother made savoury meat, such as his father loved.
15 And Rebekah took goodly raiment of her eldest son Esau, which were with her in the house, and put them upon Jacob her younger son:
16 And she put the skins of the kids of the goats upon his hands, and upon the smooth of his neck:
17 And she gave the savoury meat and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.
18 And he came unto his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I; who art thou, my son?
19 And Jacob said unto his father, I am Esau thy firstborn; I have done according as thou badest me: arise, I pray thee, sit and eat of my venison, that thy soul may bless me.
20 And Isaac said unto his son, How is it that thou hast found it so quickly, my son? And he said, Because the LORD thy God brought it to me.
21 And Isaac said unto Jacob, Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee, my son, whether thou be my very son Esau or not.
22 And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.
23 And he discerned him not, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esau's hands: so he blessed him.
24 And he said, Art thou my very son Esau? And he said, I am.
25 And he said, Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son's venison, that my soul may bless thee. And he brought it near to him, and he did eat: and he brought him wine, and he drank.
26 And his father Isaac said unto him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son.
27 And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD hath blessed:
28 Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine:
29 Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother's sons bow down to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee.
30 And it came to pass, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob was yet scarce gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.
31 And he also had made savoury meat, and brought it unto his father, and said unto his father, Let my father arise, and eat of his son's venison, that thy soul may bless me.
32 And Isaac his father said unto him, Who art thou? And he said, I am thy son, thy firstborn Esau.
33 And Isaac trembled very exceedingly, and said, Who? where is he that hath taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before thou camest, and have blessed him? yea, and he shall be blessed.
34 And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceeding bitter cry, and said unto his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father.
35 And he said, Thy brother came with subtilty, and hath taken away thy blessing.
36 And he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he hath supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me?
37 And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now unto thee, my son?
38 And Esau said unto his father, Hast thou but one blessing, my father? bless me, even me also, O my father. And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept.
                              39 And Isaac his father answered and said unto him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above;
40 And by thy sword shalt thou live, and shalt serve thy brother; and it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominion, that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck.
41 And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob.

What do we learn from this lengthy story? That where one man is a good cook, the other man gets the blessing (also note that it was the mother who prepared the tasty food, not Jacob).

What good came from Isaac having a craving for Esau's venison? Nothing good, as it caused hairy Esau to be cursed and hate his smooth brother.

Therefore, men should not cook. Nothing good may happen when men cook.

                                Hi Basilissa,

Thank you for your elaborate explanation. The dinner /meal problem Esau encountered seemed to have been caused by some family issues. Jesus (for example) did not have those problems, see John 21:12-13. Since I am not really hairy, I do not think posting about cooking, serving dinner or posting recipes should be a problem for the Christians on this site.
Jeremiah 6:21 Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will lay stumblingblocks before this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall fall upon them; the neighbour and his friend shall perish.

Best wishes for the people in Ukraine.
