Positive news coverage for our pagan-"art" burning

The Landover Christian News Service has picked up this event. Thanks again to all who participated.

Landover Baptist Pastors Hold Burning of Pagan "Art"
Event an Extension of Acts 19:19 Book Burnings
    By Dixon Sydum, LCNS Reporter

FREEHOLD, IA, June 22 (LCNS): Pastors at Landover Baptist Church held a burning of pagan "art" and "artifacts" on June 21. The burning was conducted after the 11:00 service in the church's Satellite Parking Area B, bounded by 4th, 5th, Judges, and Ruth streets.

The pastors and other church congregants burned, smashed, and otherwise destroyed "art" and "artifacts" that glorified false gods or otherwise promoted immorality. The items destroyed included manuscripts of the Qur'an and the Buddhist sutras dating back to the 10th century, oil paintings of Catholic saints, images of Hindu and Mesoamerican deities, and nude paintings, prints, and sculptures spanning five centuries. Sources within the church said that the event had been organized to build upon the success of the church's popular Acts 19:19 book burnings.

At the opening of the ceremony, Pastor Ezekiel Flint rebuked and cast out the demons that infested the "art" works. He then took a sledgehammer and smashed a Peruvian stone sculpture of a deity's head from the early Chavín period (900-500 B.C.). After that, the congregants, praising Jesus, started smashing sculptures and ceramics and carrying paintings and manuscripts to the bonfire.

The works destroyed in the event had been acquired over months from art dealers and auction houses at a cost of $175,000, sources within the church said. The single most expensive piece was a 17th-century oil painting of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin.

To finance the acquisition, the church had collected special offerings and reached out to donors. James Roy Stewart, an earthenware-level tither and Freehold native who declined to state his occupation, said that he had had to pawn his computer to donate to the event. "It's things like this," said Stewart, "that make me proud to be a member of a church that does good things with our money."

I lobbied extensively to have the event at 7:19 pm, but the consensus was that no one would come back to church that late on Sunday evening. Pastor Ezekiel said "It's just a lot more convenient having the event after church when people are still around, although your idea does have merit."
May you be a blessing to every life you touch.

I agree with the earlier timing. Traffic on Sundays is bad enough without having to go though it twice.
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?
Numbers 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Matthew 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Matthew 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

That's for sure, even with the additional parking.

Though had it been done at 4:51 the heat of the fire (in Fahrenheit) would of been perfect for making God's favorite dessert, Smoores.

I can hardly believe that I missed that. Those books of Vedic scriptures will have to wait in the chicken house until next year. Ho hum… I suppose that after 3000 years, another 12 months won’t matter.

In my town people have to have permits purchased from the city to do anything in public, unless it's a wholesome Christian event like this. Church-goers don't need permits, they have the Word of God on their side.
