It was simply the convention of a map creator. You could easily flip the map upside down, and it would be exactly equivalent.

It is very similar to the 'event horizon' that scientists talk about when discussing mythical black holes. There is a point of no return.

I've just seen the original post and can't be bothered to read all the replies:-

1. Try jumping on the top of a moving truck at 75mph, you will land back on the same place as you're moving at the same speed as the truck, same with the earth.

2. Firstly, the bits of paper you put on the balloon will fall because the earth's gravity is stronger than the balloons. Secondly, the pull of gravity is towards the center of the object, things on the 'bottom' would be pulled just as things on the 'top'. I say 'top and 'bottom' as in space there is no direction, on earth we have direction as we are pulled downwards towards the earths center.

3. The earth is huge, and we are small, therefore it appears flat when we stand on it. Look around in an unobstructed area and you will see to the horizon (the point we can't see beyond due to the earth's curvature!). If you go up then you can see further as the angle which we can see increases and so does the horizon moves. Eventually you'll get so high (in space) that you won't see further due to the ROUNDNESS of the earth.

Why not go out and learn about the world that your God gave to you and disprove your arguments yourself

Good luck making your engine run in a vacuum. Because I'd love to see you actually try to pull that off in an atmosphere.

Don't assume we don't know how the world works and try to blind us with something you read in a text book on scientific theory. How about you go out there and see how the world works yourself!

Now in the real world of things actually happening there's the word of God and God's pretty clear on how things work and they don't work like in your fancy pants assertion you just made.
