    Re: False Religions And Cults

Thank you for the links. The first of them is actually useful, as it cites numerous studies, albeit in a painfully oblique way. While it would be much better if you cited specific pages, I was able to search the pdf for "alcohol" and "wine."

The other two links are just for decoration, they are just meaningless assertions without actual data, so I just glanced over them without reading.

What I do not understand, is how did we get from "red wine in moderation is good for your heart" to "alcohol increases breast cancer risk." One, these are two totally different aspects of health, two, in case you haven't noticed, the term "alcoholic beverages" is a very wide category, which includes not just red wine but also other drinks ranging from beer to Cuba libre. Three, I think we have already covered the "in moderation" aspect of it. Practically everything can be bad for you if you eat/drink too much of it. Yes, even water. Just google hyponatremia.

Interestingly enough, the only alcoholic beverage which seems to be increasing the breast cancer risk in premenopausal women is beer, as noted on page 33 of the report. I'm not a beer fan, so according to the report you cite, I'm still safe occasionally sipping a glass of Shiraz until I hit menopause.

      Some women are post menopausal.

Did you read the conclusion of the CUP Panel on page 39 which says that consumption of alcoholic drinks is probably a cause of premenopausal breast cancer? It is true that the evidence is more convincing in the post menopausal situation.

            Yes. And water is wet.

Why can't you just admit that you were wrong?

That simply means that they made up a conclusion which does not add up with the actual data they cite. That means they are biased. That reinforces my previous point that you cannot believe everything an Authority says, but you always need to check the supporting data yourself, to see whether the Authority is bending some data and simply ignoring other data.

Which, incidentally, goes back to the scientific method I was trying to teach you about. It's a view of the world which is radically different from the religious "follow the Authority" view which you have been espousing so far.

"Cause" is a really big word there Toadstone, and there's a big difference between "correlated" and "cause". The problem with many of these "studies", which are often based on meta-analysis and epidemiological studies, is that they often don't control for all the factors in their "conclusions" (and that also comes as a bit of a stretch).

They can say "according to our study you have a certain percent chance of coming down with X when you do Y", and then they have to reveal the nature and extent of their research (control groups, sample sizes, etc.).

People who moderately drink wine may have other lifestyle factors that are not controlled for in a study that increase the risk - but it may have nothing to do with the wine. Cause and effect are always tenuous with these studies because we don't know the mechanism by which wine "causes" cancer - so there is no hard and fast "proof".

Stress is also associated with cancer, and in some cases it might be said that having a glass of wine to relax just might "prevent" cancer in some individuals.

Finally, and it was probably before you were born and subsequently acquired a sub-standard education, there was a time that living under power lines "caused" cancer according to some studies. The original studies were ultimately considered to have a number of flaws, but not before the media took over and scared the piss out of everyone.

                  Re: False Religions And Cults

It's such a pity. Although looking for supporting material is to be encouraged, why oh why do these unregenerate secularists always go for the self-referential secular sites where The Bible is of least concern? We already know what to drink and what not to drink. Water is particularly condemned when health outcomes are concerned.

                  I Timothy 5 . KJV . look up
                  23a
                  Drink no longer water
                  Pretty unambiguous by anyone's standard
23b Use a little wine for thy stomach's sake
                  Are you paying attention?
                  Not only the stomach benefits!
                  23c ..and thine often infirmities.

The Bible does not need to mention whether Timothy had breast cancer because the health benefits are set out most succinctly and as we know FROM THE SAME SOURCE this passage applies generally and not only to Timothy. Check it out here. The result is perfection but obviously people who know better than God get a different outcome.

                          Re: False Religions And Cults

It's come to my attention recently; an obscure little massacre in some village called Toronto, tucked away in Canada.

Of course, nothing really matters when it happens in Canada, what's concerning is the alleged terrorist cult behind the attack; a group of involuntary celibates that affectionally dub themselves as Incels.

These incels pride themselves on their ability to restrain the attentions of women, which indeed is a noble pursuit. What is disturbing is that the incels appear to be a cowardly group of scum too frightened to further their seed, and will never further their genology. They reject the natural role of women in their lives, thereby denying the Grace of God. (Genesis 2:18)

Of course, this mounting pent up sexual frustration leads them to commit acts of murder, by mowing down heathens in their vehicles. I should make it clear, I do not condone murder, and I hope God will enlighten these misguided misfits, and help them stop avoiding women altogether the same way a Catholic priest avoids child molestation charges.

"pent up sexual frustration" seems overly technical to me - the sort of thing a "scientist" might say - I think you had it right first time when you pointed to the rejection of God - it is this that allow demons to enter the soul and thus turn decent Christians into Catholics and atheists who lack any form of moral compass.
