Chief Inspector Donald Swanson, the officer in charge of the investigation, had named him in his notes: Aaron Kosminski, a Polish Jew who had fled to London with his family, escaping the Russian pogroms, in the early 1880s.

Well quite! Does this mean that Jack the Ripper was not some sort of sex criminal after all, but was killing for the trinkets? In this case, maybe he just really, really liked that shawl, but changed his mind when he saw he'd got blood on it.
