Re: 101 reasons why Atheists are WRONG !!!
Good evening everyone.
After reading some pages of this topic, I felt like I needed to chip in on the conversation add give you explained reasons to some of the topics here.
Just to start off and let you know, I'm personally an Agnostic, so my motto is "I don't know if God exists, but neither do you", so I'm not an Atheist - I'm neutral to this. Also I've talked to plenty of people from different faiths, so I have a somewhat comprehensive idea of what religion means to different people of different faiths.
So lets get to this then.
EVOLUTION
Evolution as it is has been proven to have happened, and is still happening today. When looking at the human anatomy, such as the appendix and the pinky-finger, not to mention your tailbone, we see remainders of what humans used to have and have since evolved out of.
The appendix was used to digest vegetable and grassy based foods, back in the days when humans were omnivores and ate more and more fruit and leaves etc. As the human diet changed over time to what it more or less is today, this part of the digestive track became unneeded, hence its current useless existence now.
The tail bone is probably the best and most indisputable proof that we have of humans evolving from primates. Some people even today have small "tails" that they can actually move like primates do. As humans became less and less dependent on living in trees and became land inhabiting creatures, the tail as it was used to balance yourself or to add some extra grip when swinging from branches, became useless and hence we've lost it - all due to evolution guiding the path of human development through natural selection and mutations.
The pinky is as most people can clearly tell, a soon-to-be remainder in humans. When comparing the strength and usability of all 5 fingers, you can clearly tell the pinky is the weakest and more often than not, requires the movement of the ring-finger to function.
Also how do you dispute skeletal evidence found of human-like primates that show clear signs of changing to a human structure? Surely if humans were created as we are today back in day 1, we would not have these, right? How about dinosaur bones or fossiles that show animals of the old days which have since gone extinct or have evolved further to become what they are today? Even velociraptors can be traced back to the chickens we have today.
What about skin color then? Humans developed different darkness variations of skin depending on where they lived in the world as a protective measure to the UV rays from the Sun. In all of the pictures where Adam and Eve are shown, they are white, caucasian people. So how did Black or any other colored people come about? Surely that proves that even if you approve of the Adam and Eve theory, some of their offspring EVOLVED and had their skin pigment changed, again, due to natural selection of specimen who adapted to the climate.
If you desire, here's a decent book on evolution and how it's proven.
Onto my second topic;
THE BIBLE
History has proven that a person who you could refer to as Jesus lived in the time of Ancient Rome, and actually was crucified, did exist, however no records of any miracles exist to this day, aside from the Bible (which's authoritative nature can be disputed, on which I'll expand a bit more).
Now as we all know, the Bible was written by man. It did not just pop out of the sky and fall onto someone's lap, a person like me and you, wrote the book. In time as it was translated, the text in the book changed and bits of it were removed. Also how things were phrased changed based on how the person translating it wanted to interpret them. Due to this and the destruction of old texts, the contents of the Bible have changed a lot since its initial conception back when it was written. Because of this its authoritative nature can be challenged, due to the changed that have happened over the years and the modern Bible not necessarily reflecting the original "word of God" anymore.
Onto something else;
ATHEISTS
A lot of the points brought up against Atheists relate to them being more so the Hippie stereotype from the 60s, all of them being vegetable-eating, gay-loving "un-Americans" who believe everything that stands against God.
I think this is all perpetuated stereotypes of an archetype that does not really exist. I for one know dozens of Atheists who love their meat, respect religious people and their faith, but still stand against gay marriage and the likes. This is because of their personal beliefs, not so much a command from above.
I myself believe that gays should have the right to marry, as they are just as human as the rest of us and should have the same rights given to us all by our respective countries' sources of law. However I'm not a vegetarian and I believe that everyone's faith, be it Christian, Hindu, Islam or any other, is their personal right and if they find something in it, then it has served its purpose.
And lastly;
GENERAL THINGS
The only bad thing I see in religion, is the fundamentalism and the rigidity of it and the unwillingness for it to adapt to modern changes. Do "laws" dictated in Ancient times still reflect the values and beliefs of the 21st century? Not necessarily. However I think that all values and "laws" given in every religion serve as excellent guidelines to live your life - to be a better person and to try and make your existence as beneficial to you and others as possible.
Instead of creating conflict, religion today should reflect more of a communal ideal. It bringing people together and helping them help others and possibly themselves, without condemning people who believe otherwise. War, hatred, bloodshed and isolation should not be a part of anyone's faiths or decisions not to believe, since that is not the idea behind religion in my view. If someone believes their faith is a tool to use against others, then they are a sad person and probably will never even achieve their goal of going into "Heaven".
I'll gladly answer any questions relating to the above or outside of it if you have anything to ask. Sure it may not go along with YOUR specific belief, but please give it the respect of an honest opinion and view-point.
I'll add more later if needed be.
Thank you.
