I have "fallen" so far because of bigotry, cruel treatment, turned noses, and downright terrible slops of an excuse for human beings that were my "christian" friends. They only bettered those that seemed to give them more publicity and self esteem than so much as acknowledge the friend that has needed friends for the past 10 years. I have a friend who ditched me to be with a woman he fornicated with, sodomized, and down right did some filthy things with and then when they broke up he was the most high and mighty thing that church has ever seen. I refuse to tell them some of the things he did while serving with them because I am not that kind of person and as far as I have witnessed from true life events, you all run the same.

Even when you are playing Diablo Jesus is with you. In fact Jesus is right there on the PvP server with some of the most righteous P/K scores on the server. Jesus is ALWAYS patched and ALWAYS in the god mode. You can not hide from Christ friend.

Hello everyone. I just want to start out and say that I am indeed not in alignment with the majority of what this forum stands for. I would not call myself a Christian or religious and I figured it's easier for everyone if my position is clear from the start. I am not here to spur anger or resentment however. I'm not trying to change anyone's mind or challenge their spiritual beliefs, whatever they may be.

I am just genuinely curious about the ideology behind posts such as these. I am a 23 year old college student majoring in the management of information systems at my local university. I go to class (most of the time), go out with friends on weekends, and play games such as Diablo 2, World of Warcraft, Starcraft 2, and the soon to be released game Diablo 3 in my spare time. (i.e. the standardized western world would probably assign me the quality of "normal.")

Anyway, my question is: at what point does a digital game such as this cease to be a logical collection of algorithms and "crosses over" into what you all deem immoral/bad/etc?

At its core, games such as these are nothing...and I literally mean nothing but billions of one-state values. Most people represent them as 0 (for no value) and 1 (for some form of value). This is all a computer is: a manipulation of these values in a certain order thus outputting further values that are, at the end of a very complex process, outputted to your monitor as various points of light on your computer screen. The very screen you are looking at now contains thousands of these points called "pixels."

So, does any of that in and of itself seem evil to you? Can a serious of 0s and 1s in-and-of-themselves be immoral? Diablo 2 and other such games, at there core, are 0s and 1s - that's it. So when, exactly do the 0s and 1s go amiss? I would propose that it is only through the human interpretation of these values that you or I could deem anything immoral. In other words, in an absolute state things nothing can be immoral (in regards to a computer system, but I also believe this applies the universe as a whole.) In our own consciousness we (subjectively) add meaning to the output of a strictly logic-based machine and therefore, I feel, that posts such as these are erroneous. The statement "The video game Diablo is evil" is false (to me) because it states an absolute value based on nothing but subjective interpretation on a serious of "ons" and "offs." The accurate statement would simply be: "I believe the video game Diablo 2 is evil."

That's my view on the resistance toward these games as shown in this thread. I encourage healthy criticism toward this point and hope you see my post not as a direct attack on your beliefs, but simply an individual's (my) view that the majority of people in this thread do not wholly understand a situation before you judge it as one of two things: good or bad. This applies to everyone, religious and non-religious alike. We love to take something and separate it from the whole, giving it a label - as if we can ever separate anything other than our own thoughts toward an entity.

I am shocked and appalled at what I am reading and I don't just mean this thread.. I just spent about a quarter hour reading through various threads in this forum and I cannot believe that you people are truly such brainwashed fanatics. I consider myself a very pleasant and good-hearted human being and the way you people conduct yourselves sickens me to my stomach. The idea itself that people like you exist and are raising kids bothers me even more than the pictures of hungry African children. (I haven't got it in me to stomach much more than that, neither am I too keen on typing a lot for you poor people becasue unfortunately I believe that even if I could write a ten times longer ten times better written post and ten thousand of you christians read it, probably not even one of you would try to look at it logically. Anyway, to a few key points that horrified me.

-You seem to be very big on Lying as it is one of the sins your commandments warn you against, yet in the OP of this thread there are more than 30 separate lies. I also read a few OPs for other games that your community has deemed "Satanic" and it seems you people are extremely misinformed. A number of people seem to have pointed out to you that what is in the OP is NOT materials/pictures/information for the game "Diablo" by Blizzard or any of it's sequels. In actuality it is one of hundreds of games where the player selects a type of protagonist (be it a knight a soldier a wizard or whatever) and battles EVIL. The player plays the role of the good guy and battles evil. That has been the general idea of games since the first ones that ever came out. And games are fiction. Movies are fiction as well. Novels also. I see some of you believe all forms of fiction are poison and as soon as you hear "mage" or "wizard" or "dragon" you jump and start screaming "Satanic worship, evil witchcraft!". Well think about this : Companies/Movie Studios/Writers/Game Designers create what SELLS, and if the people want dragons and elves, than that is what is going to get written/made/coded/shot. It has NOTHING to do with satanism. I can agree television is suggestive and news are all lies and that modern music is mostly crap and that lyrics are derogatory and that a huge percentage of youths are wasting time potentially spent doing something productive playing games BUT.. you cant just pick a random game, and make up fake facts and start beating children for discussing the latest gaming trends. That is so wrong. Lying about the game itself is still a LIE as well. One thread over in the OP about the game "Portal" it says that this game which revolves around the player solving intelligent non-violent physics puzzles by the help of a device that shoots a pair of connected "portals" encourages ORAL SEX (?!?!?!?!) .... wait for it..... BECAUSE... the poster found on google a stylized picture of a little person giving himself oral through the portal. It's just a picture made by a person. ANY person with graphics editing software can take something out of context. You take it here and put it out of context and smear a piece of art. (Yes games are now considered art as of last year) This, my friends, is lying. In fact, "Portal" was the fist game to ever be made from the "First-Person-Shooter" viewpoint WITHOUT centering on shooting at anybody(not humans not aliens not demons) - the game revolves around physics puzzles and stimulates thought. It is pushing the envelope for LESS violent games and you ignorant people smear it non the less. This is truly horrible. With the same luck I can use a photo of a man with a pocket-bible in his rectum to argue that Christianity promotes anal masturbation. Or maybe I can find a christian who interprets [insert random psalm here] as "kill all muslims" and interview him and then post it saying "This is what christins believe". I hope you can see my point.

I grew up relatively religious-free, and still am. I am not religious, however I respect a person's choice to religion, in hopes that they can respect my choice as well.

My simple question is this: Why do you think it is okay to condemn a person merely for a game that they play?

I don't see any reason in this, calling us gamers "satanic" and tell us we are going to be "judged". From where you religions people are coming from, you seem to be all high and mighty and that you have done no wrong, however Christianity does not have the best track record. There have been several occasions where blood is spilled by the hand of christians (i.e. the Crusades).

The games you are referring to are pure fantasy. In no way has a game affected the actions of a person. I don't even want to see a link to some "expert" who claims a game is the reason a child killed another human being. There are always preexisting psychological problems involved that are not linked to playing a game.

The gamers you so elegantly belittle are the people, for the most part, who will be in the technological fields. Think about it - the people leaving a better future for our children.

I just don't see how you can justify scolding every single gamer, just for the fact that they play games. I have engaged in premarital sex, I smoke cigarettes, I will get violent if me or a loved one is threatened, am I going to be "judged" simply for doing these things? I think not.

I am going to school for Chemical Engineering. I want to be part of something. I have, and will continue to, help people. I donate blood regularly.

You cannot simply scold someone for playing a game, because you know nothing about their life. It is not logical to base a person's entire life based on one singular aspect.

You cannot get more childish than adding "virgins" to the thread tags, seeing as that is a very over-used stereotype, one that holds no grounds seeing as gamers are 4% more likely to belong to a social club, and 17% of gamers go to social gatherings weekly. Thus, gamers are statistically more likely to be more social, thus increasing the chance of them meeting someone they may potentially have sex with.
