I'm not here to flame anyone, I'm really just interested in what makes people choose Christianity over science, Islam, Buddhism, or any other religion. Why in the world do you think my parents are ashamed of me? I'd think they're rather proud of me, they're atheists, they have open minds, and they don't judge others based on ideals as long as those ideals don't effect others.




PS. My god! i just read in one of Ezekials links that a pastor killed a girl while preforming an excorcism, that's crazy! I hope he's in prison now, also, he thought Jesus hung himself on the cross.

I never once told you not to believe in god, you can believe in whatever you want to believe. I agree almost completely with what the bible says just not with the way lots of people have misinterpreted it. When has god told you I should die? What you need to understand is that people need Jesus in their lives to save them from His divine mercy (being sent to Hell). But here is the good news!

The message of the Gospel is that ALL have sinned, ALL have fallen short of the glory of God. All are in need of salvation in Christ with its justification before a God whom the Son called His "Righteous Father".

Now there are some actions in the Bible which cause us to QUESTION whether or not this "Righteous Father" that Jesus refered to is really good. This is the argument as I see it.

Let me take the flood of Noah as an example. Does the drowning of a whole world society except eight people mean that we should shun God's love?

Here are some of the factors which I also have to consider in this:

1.) The moral downslide from the fall of Adam must have hit total rock bottom at that time. It says that the imagination of men's hearts were only evil continually. The earth was filled with violence.

This seems a danger to the human race as a whole. I think the flood was like the amputation of a gangrened limb of the body as a drastic measure to save the human race from total degradation.

2.) From the record of Enoch calling his son "When he dies it will come" - the meaning of the name "Methuselah" indicates a WARNING to the society. At the end of this partriarch's life span, "it" (obviously refering to the judgment of God) will come.

We know Noah was "a preacher of righteousness". We are know that Enoch was a prophet. Both preached sufficiently that the people would be warned to repent.

3.) The fact of Methuselah living longer than any other recorded human being - 969 years is significant. If the flood was to come when he dies, as his name suggests, the longevity of Methusaleh's life means God held off the judgement for as LONG as He possibly could.

In the mean time the earth is " filled with violence" (Gen. 6:11) and "corrupt ... " the judging was a remedy to end the victimization.

At least for 969 years the Spirit of God strove with men's consciences. God made an example for all future generations. He would not strive against man's conscience forever -

And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. (Gen. 6:3)

This mean that things could actually get that corrupt in the world. For this reason we may mistakenly charge God with wrong doing.

The account of the Nephilim also in connection to the Flood may suggest some very serious occultic activity so badly associating humans with the demonic and Satanic powers that the threat to mankind was too great for God not to act.

No way is God going to let that slide.

3.) The typology of the Noah Flood shows us Jesus Christ as the greater antitype reality of Noah's ark. So in this unfortunate judgment God leaves an instructive example of His plan to save people and the environment from eternal judgment in Christ.

I think as the people of Noah's day had something come upon them which none of them had evey seen before, so in the last days things come upon the world which mankind has not seen before. And this lesson and warning of the Noah flood reveals God's goodness to furnish us with an example of how we may enter into His "ark" of the Son of God to be saved eternally.

That is why you need Jesus in your life, missy. He could kill you dead any second and if you are not right with Him you will spend eternity Hell.

Because we know that Christianity is the truth, while the others are false and created by human (possible influenced by Satan) to go against the true God. We know this because the Bible is inspired by God, so it is taken as true.
"I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me: That they may know from the rising sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the Lord, and there is none else." Isaiah 45:5-6

I never have understand "gay pride," as if there is something to be proud of in submitting to temptation. We all have urges to do things that are against what we know God want, but there are difference between people who give into those temptation and people who can resist those urges and feelings because they know that it would make God angry, and the ultimate outcome is Hell.
I pray you will find Jesus like I did. He wants you to do the right thing. If you deny him, you will end in lakes of fire, gnashing your teeth and weeping.

I agree completely with the Noah's Ark thing, I don't think it actually happened I think it's another "way of life" type thing that the bible should be teaching, of course there are many ways to misinterpret it, for example when I was younger I thought it was just about murder, now I realize it's another lesson, sort of like karma, be good to others or bad will happen to you, ie. the flood.

In my opinion the bible and other holy books are full of good morals and teachings of how to be a good person. It's when people start taking them to literally and stop accepting other peoples choices as righteous that I feel I have to draw the line.

It's nice having a not-so-closed minded (because I think we all have a at least little bit of prejudice that keeps us from realizing other peoples choices are the right ones for them) person to speak to about religion. The reason I posted here in the first place was to find at least one person that could help me realize what it is Christians think about the world outside of religion, without being told repeatedly I'm going to burn in hell. Thank you very much for replying in a decent manner and not using slander as a defense mechanism. By the way, I'm a guy.

I am aware that no religions agree with each other fully, but I'm also aware I never once said I agree with Islam, or any other religion for that matter. I was going to reply with an actual answer but as long as you're going to keep quoting the bible to try and prove me wrong of whatever you think it is I disagree with you about, I think I'll save my time for speaking with Dr Laurence Niles. Read his post, it will teach you how to speak to an atheist. I never once tried to push any ideals on anyone here, I'm just trying to learn. And as for the Qur'an being based on the bible, Look up the Hebrew Scriptures, Christians took them and renamed them the "Old Testament".

In my opinion the bible and other holy books are full of good morals and teachings of how to be a good person.

I have to say this does worry me a bit. The Bible tells us that it is the literal word of God.

2nd Timothy 3:16 "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness"
Deuteronomy 4:2 "Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you."
Revelation 22:18-19 "For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book."
Psalm 12:6-7 "The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever."

It is not possible to beleive in God if one picks and chooses the bits about God one likes.

People need to know what Christianity actually means. Many people seem to thinks that it fine to be 'nice' and think Jesus simply loves everyone.

But they fail to realise that Christianity is a religion: it has rules, strictures, and bans that we are obliged to follow.

I have no personal beef with gays but my religion tells me they are an abomination and should be killed.

That's not really what I would choose but I am a Christian. It is a difficult thing to be a Christian and I trust that Jesus has a very good reason to condemn gay people to eternal torment in the lake of fire.

That is the essence of faith. That is why I'm a Christian. But it is never easy.
