This is now the third time I have asked you these things. It seems to be a trend with you to ignore anything you can't answer or reply to, and throw out unfounded accusations (for example, of "insulting your church") instead.

I find this comment interesting, Sheldon. You believe it is better to be "a nice person" than to obey God's Law, even though God commands us to follow His Law.

I assume you are an atheist, since you do not believe it important to follow God's Commands. Why have you joined a Christian church's discussion forum?

I did not even said that, was Jesus not a nice person?

Maybe if I use a different angle you will get my point.

If you want to be a good christian, read the book (once should be enough) that you get the big picture and learn the basic rules, but you should do good ACTIONS too, just saying words is not enough. Jesus did not only said good things, but also helped people (by curing the ill, speaking wise words like 'don't be too greedy' for example (he used certainly other words), why don't you want help people? It will be more effective than YOU cast all the unsaved without any chance of redemption.

          Re: Hi guys.

Devon, in this case is right. His definition is the one I believe in. I believe there is a God or creator as everything must have come from something, but I do not know what form it takes.

Pardon for saying but the Bible does seem very contradictory.
'treat thy neighbor as thyself' That was the only quote I ever learnt in RS yet it seems to go against everything you seem to be saying. You seem to be prejudiced against a fair amount of people. Catholics even? Are they not Christians too?

            You are referring to;

Leviticus 19:18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.

I suggest you read the whole Leviticus 19
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth
Proverbs 19:25 Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.
Ezekiel 16:14 And thy renown went forth among the heathen for thy beauty: for it was perfect through my comeliness, which I had put upon thee, saith the Lord GOD.
Proverbs 6:25 Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.
Genesis 24:16 And the damsel was very fair to look upon, a virgin, neither had any man known her: and she went down to the well, and filled her pitcher, and came up.
Song of Solomon 1:15 Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hast doves' eyes.

I am not very familiar with the Bible, but after a bit of googling is it not just listing the laws that God says you must obey? They all seem pretty reasonable and nothing suggests a reason as to why you should be prejudiced against others. I get the impression that God discourages prejudice even?

The point is that if you do NOT follow what God has said, you WILL burn.

Having read The Bible, one understands that God has instrucred us very precisely. There are so many ways to get to Hell and the everlasting torture that God has prepared. But there is only ONE way to get to Heaven.

Unless you are »the Amazing Memory Man« you will not have remembered all of it, and so the exact circumstances when you should rip open the pregnant belly of a beautiful woman, or grasp an infant by its legs and hurl it against a boulder, splattering yourself with its brains and watch as it convulses there at your feet, desperate to live! but so soon to die.. would probably escape you. The right infant so destroyed will bring you happiness, the happiness of knowing a loving God and doing His will - but the wrong one will send you to Hell FOREVER.

This is what the Bible says:

                LUKE 13
23 Then said one vnto him, Lord, are there few that be saued? And he said vnto them,
24 Striue to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say vnto you, will seeke to enter in, and shall not be able.
25 When once the master of the house is risen vp, & hath shut to the doore, and ye begin to stand without, & to knocke at the doore, saying, Lord, Lord, open vnto vs, and he shal answere, & say vnto you, I know you not whence you are:
26 Then shall ye begin to say, Wee haue eaten and drunke in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.
27 But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence you are; depart from me all ye workers of iniquitie.
28 There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when yee shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Iacob, and all the Prophets in the kingdome of God, and you your selues thrust out.

                REVELATION 14
10 The same shall drinke of the wine of the wrath of God, which is powred out without mixture into the cup of his indignation, and hee shall be tormented with fire and brimstone, in the presence of the holy Angels, and in the presence of the Lambe:
11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth vp for euer and euer. And they haue no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoeuer receyueth the marke of his name.

                ©1611

God has told us about the joy of knowing His excellent lovingkindness and the happiness it brings.

                PSALM 36
5 Thy mercie (O Lord) is in the heauens; and thy faithfulnesse reacheth vnto the cloudes.
6 Thy righteousnesse is like the great mountaines; thy iudgements are a great deepe; O Lord, thou preseruest man and beast.
7 How excellent is thy louing kindnesse, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust vnder the shadowe of thy wings.
8 They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatnesse of thy house: and thou shalt make them drinke of the riuer of thy pleasures.

                ©1611

But people who think they know better than God are worse than prostitutes. God tells us that they are abominable filth, and they will know despair..

                HOSEA 13
15 Though he be fruitfull among his brethren, an East winde shall come, the winde of the Lord shall come vp from the wildernesse, and his spring shall become drie, and his fountaine shalbe dried vp: he shall spoile the treasure of all pleasant vessels.
16 Samaria shall become desolate, for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shalbe dashed in pieces, and their women with childe shalbe ript vp.

                ©1611

                ..while we know happiness! HALLELUJAH!

PSALM 137:9 Happy shall he be that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.
                ©1611

If you have invented a different happiness, some hallucination that denies God's Excellent Lovingkindness, it is FALSE doctrine, CONTRADICTING The Bible and leading you to HELL.

Yes, we Christians are supposed to love our neighbors. But you are taking the Scripture out of Biblical context. God commands us to be seperated from infidels:

                  2 Corinthians 6:14-17
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

Since our neighbors must be True Christians™ we are only commanded to love our True Christian™ brothers and sisters.

Catholics are idolaters who would rather worship Mary than God.
                  To the atheists:

                  To the false christians:

Feel like pissing off God? Perhaps this will change your mind:

                  Hosea 13:16
Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.

You really have to read the whole Bible. There are things in the Bible people do not like, so they choose to ignore them. You cannot just choose the bits you like, it is all or nothing.

                      For example
                      Leviticus 20
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Again, thou shalt say to the children of Israel, Whosoever he be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel, that giveth any of his seed unto Molech; he shall surely be put to death: the people of the land shall stone him with stones.
3 And I will set my face against that man, and will cut him off from among his people; because he hath given of his seed unto Molech, to defile my sanctuary, and to profane my holy name.
4 And if the people of the land do any ways hide their eyes from the man, when he giveth of his seed unto Molech, and kill him not:
5 Then I will set my face against that man, and against his family, and will cut him off, and all that go a whoring after him, to commit whoredom with Molech, from among their people.
6 And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people.
7 Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God.
8 And ye shall keep my statutes, and do them: I am the LORD which sanctify you.
9 For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death: he hath cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him.
10 And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.
11 And the man that lieth with his father's wife hath uncovered his father's nakedness: both of them shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
12 And if a man lie with his daughter in law, both of them shall surely be put to death: they have wrought confusion; their blood shall be upon them.
13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
14 And if a man take a wife and her mother, it is wickedness: they shall be burnt with fire, both he and they; that there be no wickedness among you.
15 And if a man lie with a beast, he shall surely be put to death: and ye shall slay the beast.
16 And if a woman approach unto any beast, and lie down thereto, thou shalt kill the woman, and the beast: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
17 And if a man shall take his sister, his father's daughter, or his mother's daughter, and see her nakedness, and she see his nakedness; it is a wicked thing; and they shall be cut off in the sight of their people: he hath uncovered his sister's nakedness; he shall bear his iniquity.
18 And if a man shall lie with a woman having her sickness, and shall uncover her nakedness; he hath discovered her fountain, and she hath uncovered the fountain of her blood: and both of them shall be cut off from among their people.
19 And thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy mother's sister, nor of thy father's sister: for he uncovereth his near kin: they shall bear their iniquity.
20 And if a man shall lie with his uncle's wife, he hath uncovered his uncle's nakedness: they shall bear their sin; they shall die childless.
21 And if a man shall take his brother's wife, it is an unclean thing: he hath uncovered his brother's nakedness; they shall be childless.
22 Ye shall therefore keep all my statutes, and all my judgments, and do them: that the land, whither I bring you to dwell therein, spue you not out.
23 And ye shall not walk in the manners of the nation, which I cast out before you: for they committed all these things, and therefore I abhorred them.
24 But I have said unto you, Ye shall inherit their land, and I will give it unto you to possess it, a land that floweth with milk and honey: I am the LORD your God, which have separated you from other people.
25 Ye shall therefore put difference between clean beasts and unclean, and between unclean fowls and clean: and ye shall not make your souls abominable by beast, or by fowl, or by any manner of living thing that creepeth on the ground, which I have separated from you as unclean.
26 And ye shall be holy unto me: for I the LORD am holy, and have severed you from other people, that ye should be mine.
27 A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them.
Not exactly all peace and love is it. If you think the Bible is all about peace and love you would be better off going to to live on some hippie commune.

Well, ignorance is ahrdly a good starting point from which to reach your 'pseudo-conclusion' or 'impression'. I suggest you take Lisa's advice, after all Scripture is without doubt the spiritual porridge that keeps the Soul nourished.

Also does God have parents? If not how has he come into existence? Was he grown in a test tube?

Jesus has two parents, God and Maria. When you try to understand God it is important to realize he is beyond space, time, cause and effect. For example, where we might see all kinds of limits caused by the laws of physics, none of these apply to God. There are no limits to what he can do, none whatsoever.

Try reading The Book of Genesis. It is the first part of the Bible.
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth

Is that not the story of creation? Before that there was nothingness? So where did God come from? Why did he choose to create the universe at that particular time?
