  • Hey There

So, I guess there isn't much to say other than that I am a new member here.

I am what you guys call a "Liberal Christian" but you said we, as well as atheists, are allowed to join and partake in discussions. I want to give it a shot because why not, right?

I will be sure to respect all beliefs here, and hope that mine are respected as well. Humans all think differently after all. We aren't clones.

Hello, and welcome, I suppose, to GOD's forum.

We are here to praise and worship Him, and to take the Bible to the world.

I suppose that you entirely disregard GOD's instructions for beating children and slaves?

    Unfortunately, we aren't all clones.

However, we are the next best thing:

I think that children can be disciplined in more effective ways than being beaten. I am a psychology major in university, and I've learned the effects of different types of discipline. And slaves, well, what about them? We don't have them anymore. God says we are all equal, and by having slaves we are putting them below us.

Love your neighbor and all, right?

Well, since I am in university now I don't technically go to church anymore. this town is very small, but I am part of a christian fellowship run within the university.

As for information about myself: I am a university student (as said many times) and a musician. I play metal and listen to bands such as "living sacrifice".

They are a Christian metal band. Here is one of their songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxo6HV1r43Y

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that your favorite Bible (KJV1611) verse isn't Revelation 3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

                  Liberal=lukewarm.

The Bible doesn't ever say "Oh yeah, by the way, that was only for Christians"

                          Here is another one too:
1 John 4:20 If someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen.

Now, I see things are going in the opposite direction in which I intended. I only wanted to introduce myself and get to know a few of the people here. I don't want to discuss these issues right off the bat.

You have a really bad case of cherry picking the Bible via google.
                            1 John 4

1Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. 4Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. 5They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. 6We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

Oh look. God isn't actually telling us to love everyone regardless but is in fact telling us how to discern people who are not of God so we love only those who are of God.

How odd what happens when you read instead of googling from wishy washy fluffy bunny Christian sites.

                              Re: Hey There

                              The key word is "brother."

The Bible calls us to be separate from the rest of the world:

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. - Romans 12:2

Furthermore, there are instances when hatred is endorsed by GOD:

If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. - Luke 14:26

Proverbs 6 also provides a convenient list of things GOD hates.
