For your information, siesta is only practiced in Spain. And Portugal, neutral during the war, indeed sold supplies to both allied and axis armies, but the major support was with the allies supplying the air base in Açores for the American Air Force.

I´m not going to lower myself to most of the people on this topic. Has a sane and intelligent person, i rather feel good knowing that are some people that still have her mentalities stuck in the the rear part of the body.

I´m a proud Portuguese, i have visit several countries, USA among them. All countries are different. And all countries have bad people and good people. All countries have upsides and downsides. The problem here is to use something GOD gave us : A brain. Some of you should get one, it can do amazing things! The comparison to Spain is another hilarious part of this topic really... and reading this... it made me feel proud to be Portuguese, because ( and at least comparing to most of you ) it mean in far superior has a person.

I'm Portuguese and I'm a bit scared. To be honest, you sound completely delusional, you promote blind hatred of people you don't even know, and I'm happy that I don't know anyone like you in my country.
Firstly, I find it really childish that you love your country so much, and take pride in conquers and wars that happened centuries ago. To be fair, I could never understand ethnic or national pride. Pride is for something you achieve on your own, not something that happens by accident of birth. Being American isn't a skill, you just happened to be born there. Saying stuff like "We saved the french" or "We saved the brits" it would be just like me, as a Portuguese, saying that "we discovered Brazil" or "we kicked the spanish out of our country". Well, did we? Cause I don't recall landing in Vera Cruz, and I bet neither do you remember taking part in the American revolution.
And let's take a look at your lovely slogan, "God Bless America". What does that even mean? Why should God care more about your country than for Portugal, or Spain, or Mongolia, or Burkina Faso or any other country? I thought God was supposed to judge people as individuals, not in groups limited by frontiers.
I believe Nationalism is for people who have nothing to be proud of in themselves so they resort to a label that the government gave them. Otherwise, and since I also fit in the category of people called Michael, would that mean "we" are the greatest basketball players ever?
I also think that you, who go around labelling everyone as lazy, are the real lazy people. You refuse to have a rational argument because you just assume that you're right, and use God's will as a sole justification for your actions and beliefs. Try reading a few philosophy books so that you can learn how to think on your own instead of simply swallowing all the stuff you've been told since you were a kid.

Now, regarding the baseless accusations against my people (yes, I'm Portuguese):
- First of all, there are no paid-for servants in Portugal. That is something you can only find in Third World countries. And considering that, in 2005, we had the 24th best standard of living in the world, I'd say that puts us well out of the Third-World club. C'mon, we have codfish, like the Norwegians.
- Secondly, MisterM, I believe you have visited the Algarve. Being portuguese, I can safely guarantee you that the Algarve does NOT represent the whole of Portugal. It is an area invaded by foreigners, with tons of Brits and Germans and Americans roaming about in droves. As such, the people there do not (at lack of a better word) function the same way as they do in the rest of the country. And yes, you'll find more drug sellers in Algarve. Tourists seem to love it, you see, especially Americans, which creates a certain demand. And they love our codfish, too.
- Thirdly, if you understood anything about economy, you'd see that our current predicament was not caused by us (although we were certainly in bad shape to face them due to our own past errors) but by fluctuations in the global markets. Something which, if I recall correctly, would've brought down the US on its knees hadn't Congress approved new limits for your own debt. You'd have been so poor that you wouldn't have been able to buy even a little codfish.
- I got the distinct impression that MisterM visited us in the '80s (judging by the spanish-speaking programs he tried to present as similes to those portuguese-speaking ones he watched here), when we were leaving behind a dictatorial regime that supressed social and technological development for almost 40 years. But wait, they didn't have LCD's back then...So you must've visited us recently. Which makes you a blatant liar. Nowadays we're as...civilized, shall we say, as England, France, Germany...and the US, certainly (I had my reservations in applying such a strong word as "civilized" to the land beyond the sea). Our women don't have facial hair, and neither do our men anymore (except our elders). The only hair you can find in the streets nowadays is that on the backs of our dogs and cats (properly vaccinated). And in our codfish.
- Portuguese is a language indeed, the 5th most spoken in the world (although that's thanks to Brazilian Portuguese. European Portuguese, the original variant, doesn't have as many speakers). Someone presented a clip from a Galician TV show as it being spoken in Portuguese. If geography serves me right, Galicia is a part of Spain located above Portugal. The language spoken there, Galician, gave birth to Portuguese many a century ago. So nowadays you have Portuguese, a most distinct language on its own, and Galician, which sounds like a mixture between Portuguese and Spanish. Also, codfish.
- And we're not too poor to travel either. We go about everywhere sailing in our little wodden caravels, armed to the teeth with deadly codfish shields, lest the Spanish assail us in our travels.

As Jesus put it: “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets." (Matthew 7:12)

Understood here as: don't go a-knocking our codfish down, we judge your hamburguers fairly.
