Public Notice: New Snow Removal Policy, Spiritual Considerations
Friends of Freehold, we have entered the beautiful season of snow and cold. Nothing is more beautiful in God's Kingdom than newly fallen snow on a crisp winter morning.
During a visit at the Senior Center the other day, a nice lady asked me this question, "If God puts snow in the street, why do you think it's OK to move it somewhere else?"
To be honest, I had never thought about this. We have had some considerable pride in our snow removal work here in Freehold. We develop a "battle plan" when a snow storm is coming and hit the streets hard with our equipment, removing every trace of snow and ice.
But, this lady's question caused me to ponder whether this is really what God wants us to do when he places snow so carefully on our streets. Perhaps he wants us to drive over it, and, get stuck occassionally to teach us something.
I have concluded that, while I really do not claim to know God's thinking on snow, we should use some caution. That is, we should not just toss the snow around willy nilly as if it is our new little toy. Instead, we need to strike a balance between carrying out the important work of God's Kingdom, but minimizing the movement of something God placed here for some unknown purpose.
The new snow policy will remove snow completely from the streets where pastors have their homes. In addition, it will be removed completely around Landover Baptist Church. On other streets, it will be pushed to the side just enough for vehicles to navigate the street slowly.
I hope this balance of the devine with the practical will please all of you in Freehold.
Please get out and enjoy this beautiful season of snow and the celebration of our Baby Jesus.
