    Anyways, I assume some of you have the luxury of fine satellite entertainment. Well you know how a satellite works? It's some mechanism we shoot up in the sky (where ur buddy G.O.D hangs out) that sends a signal down to Earth (where we are right now). But it rotates around the Earth, at least 15,000 miles in the sky, if not there is no logical way that signal could reach the entire country (and no, God is not controlling Direct TV). And yes there are pictures from space of the Earth taken from satellites, once again, at least 15,000 miles in the sky, where there is less gravity. You see here on Earth, there's a reason when you throw a baseball in the air it comes back down, but the sun hasn't crashed down into the Earth yet, it's called gravity.

    so for you simpletons, and yes you are simpletons, I can't believe this nonsense some of you are spewing and how racist and illogical you guys are.......
    If the sun were 500 miles above the Earth, we wouldn't have cable T.V.
    How can I put this let me try it this way. Can you read? Did someone else sign you up for this forum. If you can read try to remember you were supposed to make an introduction of yourself in the introduction forum.
    I will send you the link, let's see if you can get it right this time;

      Typical shine.

      Ever hear of more than one satellite?

      Do you realize that that God holds the sun at about 500 miles away?

      Tell me, how does the suns position have anything to do with cable TV? You do know a key component of cable is well, a cable and they do not attach to satellites.

        If you were actually interested in logic, you would know that a personal attack counts as a fallacy. This does not give me, a reasonable and objective person, much confidence in your intelligence.

        Then your assumption is false. And so are any conclusions you will base on that false assumption. That's poor reasoning on your part.

        If it rotates around the earth, then how can it reach the entire country? The earth itself is going to be between the satellite and the country. Thus, your argument actually disproves the spherical-earth model.

        Yes, and similarly, the light bulb hanging from my ceiling hasn't falled onto my head yet. According to your logic, the only explanation is that the light bulb is in geosynchronous orbit

        You seem to really watch TV a lot. Maybe that's why you're so verbally abusive and have the mistaken assumption that you're not dumb.

            Here is the proof:

            To start off with, the sun is hot enough to glow yellow, so we can use Wein's Displacement Law to determine the temperature.

            Wein's Displacement Law:
            Peak Wavelength in meters = displacement constant / temperature in Kelvin

            Yellow light has a wavelength between 570nm and 580nm, so we'll solve for 575nm. Since we are working with nanometers rather than meters, we'll simplify the math by multiplying the displacement constant by 10^9.

            575 = 2897768.5/T
            575 * T = 2897768.5
            T = 2897768.5/575
            T = 5039.6° K (8611.6° F)

            So the sun is about 5039.6° Kelvin.

            Now, the average temperature of the earth is 59° F, or about 288° K. The mean temperature gradient of the troposphere is 6° K/km, so let's solve for the distance.

            d = (5039.6 - 288)/6
            d = 791.9 km (491.1 miles)

            There you have it. The sun is roughly 491.1 miles overhead. Depending on the exact shade of yellow (whether it's closer to 570nm or 580nm), this figure could be off by as much as 5 miles. However, I don't have a spectrometer handy, and I'm willing to live with an uncertainty of ±5 miles. It's not like I'm planning to visit anytime soon -- my shoes would melt .

            The LORD is so good to me. Praise the sweet name of Jesus.

              It's understandable that you are confused after your closely held beliefs were thoroughly debunked by Christians.

              Most atheists come in here thinking they can outsmart Christians. They're in for a surprise. And sometimes.... that surprise involves turning to the Lord

                  Oh this is just sad....if it were only 500 miles away, we would all die and gravity would suck everything up, and if it were that cold nothing could be alive, and if this were true, the sun would have to in fact be yellow, which it is not, it is actually a variety of colors ranging the entire spectrum of light waves being that the original color spectrum is based from the sun...So I think it is safe to say that....and now, because I am guessing based on prior observations that arguing common sense with you is only for the chronically bored and insane, I think it is safe to say, that for the third time tonight, Science has now tackled idiocy.

                            I take exception to the antisemitic tone of your post. Just because the observations weren't done by "rational" northern Europeans and instead by "desert dwellers" doesn't make those observations invalid.
