Anna, I think you should drop the matter. Don't try to explain to these people in what we believe, they will not hear. Don't try to convince them that their ways are wrong either. They are happy about who they are, even if we are taught differently. Respect that they have every right to say what they want. Keep the peace honey

It is relevant. If magick is a placebo, it initiated no change. The change came from within the person, perhaps from a change in attitude or a resolution to try harder. It is a trick of the mind. A person taking sugar pills may be convinced they are helping him get better. Doesn't mean it's true.

In science, when there can be no final proof nor disproof, the question is deemed to be meaningless. We will never know the answer. What's left, then, is what we believe.
Most Wiccans prefer to claim an ancient heritage, however. And in some ways, it's indisputable that Wicca stems from the Old Pagan Religions.
Personally, I believe Wicca is a reincarnation of the Old Religion. An heir, rather than the original.

There is overwhelming evidence to suggest that wicca was made up by Gerald Gardner a few others from bits of older religions and (as far as I know) no evidence to the contrary. Generally one believes what one has evidence for and rejects what one does not have evidence for. It's not so much a scientific issue as a historical one.

Okay, so you understand that just believing in something doesn't make it true. How then do you determine whether something is true? Or how should you determine whether something is true? Relying on your feelings -- whether something feels good -- isn't an accurate method, because that doesn't make something true either.

You kept mentioning earlier that alternative science supports wicca. When I looked up alternative science on Wikipedia, I found a disambiguation page that led me to pseudoscience.

Pseudoscience is a claim, belief, or practice which is presented as scientific, but does not adhere to a valid scientific method, lacks supporting evidence or plausibility, cannot be reliably tested, or otherwise lacks scientific status. Pseudoscience is often characterized by the use of vague, contradictory, exaggerated or unprovable claims, an over-reliance on confirmation rather than rigorous attempts at refutation, a lack of openness to evaluation by other experts, and a general absence of systematic processes to rationally develop theories.

You shouldn't use alternative science, or pseudoscience, to support wicca.

The only thing I've got out of this thread is that wiccans are sneaky by first trying to rubbish other people's beliefs as ridiculous and irrational before going for a sucker punch and preaching their own brand of ridiculous patently made up tosh.

You can't seem to get any two of them to agree on what it is they believe because they all just basically make it up in their own heads then sort of glue it back on to some vague mutual framework. They then just sort of politely ignore the bits where they believe in two mutually exclusive things at the same time while claiming to believe in the same religion.

They are vicious and intolerant and seem to think that everyone should believe what they believe and they also seem to find it impossible to take a polite, "No!" for an answer when ramming their message down other people's throats.

Compare this to the simple, unstained (conditional) love of Jesus who died (temporarily) for their sins, without being asked to and whether they wanted Him to or not. Yet they can't see how Jesus is right and they are wrong.
