Why is it stupid? We know the Earth orbits the Sun, which, just to announce, is 150,000,000 km away (AU).

Not necessarily. The length of the shadow depends on the location and angle from which the sun rays are coming, so it has nothing to do with the overall shape of the Earth.

Standing in a flat plateau, you look ahead of you towards the horizon. You strain your eyes, then take out your favorite binoculars and stare through them, as far as your eyes (with the help of the binocular lenses) can see.
Then, you climb up the closest tree – the higher the better, just be careful not to drop those binoculars and break their lenses. You then look again, strain your eyes, stare through the binoculars out to the horizon.
The higher up you are the farther you will see. Usually, we tend to relate this to Earthly obstacles, like the fact we have houses or other trees obstructing our vision on the ground, and climbing upwards we have a clear view, but that’s not the true reason. Even if you would have a completely clear plateau with no obstacles between you and the horizon, you would see much farther from greater height than you would on the ground.
This phenomena is caused by the curvature of the Earth as well, and would not happen if the Earth was flat.

Pictures taken from outer space? Men have been to the moon you know, the human race actually has the possibility of travelling through space. Pictures taken from there show that the earth is actually round, and not flat.

That's the easiest one. These pictures are fake.

Still not convinced? Try to reach the edge, just try... I would LOVE to see the look upon your face when you go round and round again and never find it.

Why don't you go and send us some pictures? We don't feel the need to prove what we know.

2+2=the distance to the sun is some big number someone clearly made up. Nope, it's not working. When I measure how far it is I zero my trip meter in my car and drive as straight as I can all the way there or use a tape measure or pace it out.

You people just swallow everything you get told. Why I bet they told you they did some clever trick with triangles or some such nonsense. Well I tried looking at the sun and seeing what angle it was at but it kept moving across the sky and making my eyes burn. It's at a different angle all through the day. What does that prove?

Google Earth will give you a pretty good view, no need to go photograph the entire world myself.

I'm not a "dude," but that's a minor issue. You don't have the "correct" explanation, what you do have is a "plausible" explanation - and so do we. Try going to a football stadium, and first sit down and see how much you can see, and then stand up, or climb higher, and compare your angle of view. Or are you going to tell me that the Earth is so small that you can see the curvature of a football stadium?

I am most certainly not trying to hit on you, not to mention that the idea of having butt sex with you or any other man kind of disgusts me, but since you talk so much about it I guess you have more experience in the matter.

You are right of course, but as you stated yourself: It is way too small to prove any theory related to the shape of the earth. This was stated in my original post by the way, saying that you have to look at it being able to look a lot further.

I am (by the way) not really here to convince you of my beliefs, I am however hoping with all my heart that YOU are able to convince ME. And don't even think about redirecting me to the bible, I've read it, and a 2000 year old book isn't going to change my point of view. Why not? Because it's 2000 years old and because I interpreted the meaning of it, and didn't just assume that everything it says is correct.
