I have been courteous, and have answered his ill-thought-out questions to the best of my ability (rembering what was taught at around 3rd or 4th form level, year 9-ish, ideas my sinful nature prevented me from resisting but which this dork seems to have swallowed and yet he can't remember?). The Bible is contradictory on the matter of whether the earth is flat. The Bible says, “He (God) hangeth the earth upon nothing” (Job 26:7). If this were true, it would be problematic, because then what would stop the earth from falling down? Many Christian creationists use this verse in isolation to show that the Bible agrees with modern science and a round earth, but they ignore the verses that say the earth is set on pillars or foundations.

1 Samuel 2:8 The pillars of the earth are the Lord's, and he hath set the world upon them. (The Bible agrees that pillars are an unstable design. God has to hold them firm every time there’s an earthquake. “When the earth and all its people quake, it is I who hold its pillars firm” – Psalm 75:3.)

The Qur’an itself isn’t clear as to what the earth rests on, so I have an open mind on that issue, but our traditions put forward a number of notions.

Wow! That towel head sure is convinced that the Bible, which is the perfect word of God like it says in the Bible, has contradictions. He's also convinced we want to hear his devil talk of deluded maniacs who dreamed they split the moon in half.

I don't get what motivates someone to try and impose his own beliefs which have no basis in actual fact and no evidence to support it on other people. It's like some sort of mental deficiency to want to have the whole world share your delusion.

The Bible is contradictory on the matter of whether the earth is flat. The Bible says, “He (God) hangeth the earth upon nothing” (Job 26:7). I too have heard some liberal creationists use this verse. You could take it to mean the earth isn't suspended from anything, and it isn't. Job 26:7 doesn't say anything about the shape of the earth, round or flat. Also, a lot of the things Job said when he was angry with God were spoken in ignorance (Job 38-41). Whose words should we believe? Job's, who says the earth hangs on nothing (Job 26:7)? Or God's, who says the earth is laid on foundations (Job 38:4-6)? Besides, even if you think this passage means the earth has no foundations, Job had a 50% chance of guessing wrong. The earth either has foundations or it doesn't.

Some muslim apologists think the Koran says the earth is shaped like an egg (79:30), which modern scientists would disagree with anyway. That is if you translate the Arabic a certain way.

1. The earth does stand on pillars, which are the earth's foundations, and these foundations stand on nothing, because if they were standing on something, then what would that something be standing on? I mean, whatever are the foundations of earth, the final base has to stand on nothing.

2. The earth is immovable in the sense that is not going anywhere (like circling the sun, which is the most stupid idea ever), but it does tremble during the earthquakes.

I did a very quick Google search and apparently, your "scholars" say that the word used to describe the shape of the earth can be translated as 'ostrich egg' (http://www.answering-islam.org/Quran...rth_flat.html; http://islamicresponse.blogspot.com/...earth-is.html; http://wikiislam.net/wiki/Flat_Earth_and_the_Qur'an; and these are just the three first websites that come up).

So which one is it - is it like a carpet/bed or like an egg? Or do you sleep in beds that have shape of an egg? (That would explain why you people are so pissed off at everybody, you don't get a good night sleep). You will never find such a contradiction in the Bible, because the Bible is the Word of God. Period.

First of all, if the pictures posted in the original post are real, how come the photographer didn't fall off the edge? As you can see, he's already over it, so how did he (and his camera) come back?

There are actually a lot of ways to prove the earth is round. Let me just give you a few examples:

1.
If you stick a stick in the [sticky] ground, it will produce a shadow. The shadow moves as time passes (which is the principle for ancient Shadow Clocks). If the world had been flat, then two sticks in different locations would produce the same shadow:
But they don’t. This is because the earth is round, and not flat.

2.
Standing in a flat plateau, you look ahead of you towards the horizon. You strain your eyes, then take out your favorite binoculars and stare through them, as far as your eyes (with the help of the binocular lenses) can see.
Then, you climb up the closest tree – the higher the better, just be careful not to drop those binoculars and break their lenses. You then look again, strain your eyes, stare through the binoculars out to the horizon.
The higher up you are the farther you will see. Usually, we tend to relate this to Earthly obstacles, like the fact we have houses or other trees obstructing our vision on the ground, and climbing upwards we have a clear view, but that’s not the true reason. Even if you would have a completely clear plateau with no obstacles between you and the horizon, you would see much farther from greater height than you would on the ground.
This phenomena is caused by the curvature of the Earth as well, and would not happen if the Earth was flat.

3.
Pictures taken from outer space? Men have been to the moon you know, the human race actually has the possibility of travelling through space. Pictures taken from there show that the earth is actually round, and not flat.
