Do not stay in a relationship where your husband is beating you. That is sick and disgusting. No one should be beat for wrongdoings. Can we think like humans for a minute? Think of your daughter. Do you want her husband to beat her? Do you want your daughter to be bruised and beaten for saying one wrong word? If you believe husbands should beat their wives and stay with an abusive spouse you are not thinking of your children or your children's children. You are thinking of the Lord, but the Lord is testing you and your strength. If you believe abusive relationships are okay you believe rape is okay. You believe that you can beat your children and they can beat theirs. You are teaching your sons it is okay to treat a woman disrespectfully, you are teaching your sons they are dominant over their wife, whom they should be loyal to and respect. It is not okay for someone to lay a hand on you in a bad way and you are teaching them they can treat women however they want. You have to teach them right. Your son will end up in jail if he beats a woman. He will end up in jail for rape. Consider the law and your kids in this.

You forget yourself and speak like a 21st century feminist, not a Bible Believing Christian. You see, True Christians™ know how to stay safe in today's world fraught with such dangers as rape, terrorism, and the witty barbs of Jon Stewart.

We are teaching our children it's important to read the Holy Bible, believe the Holy Bible, and follow the Holy Bible, as it is the only way to do our duty (Ecclesiastes 12:13). Our children know that the LORD often uses physical reminders when reprimanding those whom He loves (Deuteronomy 8:5; Psalm 94:12; Lamentations 3:39; Revelation 3:19). In the same way, the husband reprimands the wife whom He loves (1 Corinthians 11:3).

For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:

For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

I think the real issue here is that you're afraid to give up your autonomy. You're afraid to give up control. What you don't know is that the moment you do that, you leave yourself open to attacks by Satan. Stay under the umbrella of authority as God designed for the benefit of women, and you will be safe.

if my husband came at me and thought it was his responsibility to discipline me, i'd have serious problems with that.

the whole spanking thing? that seems terribly inappropriate and behavior that enforces a parent-child relationship, not a husband-wife one.

honestly i'm kinda creeped out that grown males are spanking their wives to get them to "obey"

It figures that someone so resistant to the rules of society that they refuse to begin sentences with a capital letter would not understand that spanking women is sometimes necessary to get them in line. Besides, spanking isn't the only way to do do it-- a sock in the jaw, dragging her by the neck down a flight of marble stairs, tripping her as she meekly walks by you, slamming a door on her wrist, slapping her face so hard it leaves a perfect red shape of your hand for an hour or two, hanging her by her arms while tied behind her, or grabbing her by the hair and shoving a hot iron against her cheek is also pretty effective.

Mr. Des is right! I stayed obedient to my parents and to the Lord's commands, behaving a modest, demure manner, and when I was married to my husband, it was never right. According to the Lord, "The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband" as stated in 1 Corinthians 4:7. I am not my own, the Lord bought me with His most precious and holy Blood, and then he put me under the care and subjugation of my husband, who leads me to Heaven.

In regard to divorce, Jesus stated that it is because of the hardness of people's hearts that God allowed divorce in the first place (Mark 10:2 - 12). God is looking for a commitment from people whom He has called to His way of life. We live in a throw-away world. The minute something does not work, it immediately gets tossed out when it could have perhaps been fixed. We should do all we possibly can to save a marriage before ending it. The effects of a broken home last for many years.That said, in the case of spousal abuse, we must also consider that our bodies and minds are the temple of God. One should not remain in an abusive home if they can help it. Physical, mental or emotional mistreatment in any marriage is UNACCEPTABLE to our Father. If one is truly converted to him and His way of life, they will become his temple. He will live in them and walk among them in Spirit, be their God, and they will be His people.The New Covenant, discussed in several different places in the Bible, is the agreement God offers man so that he can live forever. He looks at the temple of our hearts and minds and welcomes those who by their conscience have been keeping themselves separate (as much as possible) from sin and Satan the devil (the ruler and deceiver of this present evil world - Revelation 12:9). This separation includes honoring out spouse as our heavenly Father wants us to do.Our Father commands us to be holy, pure, and not to defile ourselves with sin (2Corinthians 6:17, 1Corinthians 3:16 - 17). When a person is converted they are willing to keep a commitment to him and walk in His ways (Psalm 119:165, Proverbs 6:23). God can not endorse and embrace abuse in marriage because it contradicts His character. And since marriage is designed to represent Christ, the teachings of such churches embracing abuse is heretical and it is blasphemous to the Word of God.

God does not condone abuse.

And the Lord said, “Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom his master will set over his household, to give them their portion of food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions. But if that servant says to himself, ‘My master is delayed in coming,’ and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and get drunk, the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will cut him in pieces and put him with the unfaithful. Luke 12:42-46

Of course not. Which is why severe beatings which leave wounds are part of loving correction, not abuse:

Proverbs 20:30 The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly.

Hebrews 12:11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Speaking of beating your slaves - it really depends on whether your slave dies immediately after the beating or a few days later:

Exodus 21:20-21
20 And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall be surely punished.
21 Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money.

Obviously, the latter type of beating does not constitute abuse (as we both agree that God does not condone abuse).

The woman belongs to the man and the man to the woman. In marriage everything should be consensual and equal.

Wrong:

1 Corinthians 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.

So if your husband beats you for every stupid thing you do, beat him for every stupid thing he does.

By your logic, children should be allowed to beat their parents.

I'm going to ask you a question about abuse - abuse on a scale beyond marriage. I'll ask you to make a choice. That can be difficult as we are burdened with our preconceptions and emotions and tend to disregard True™ information:

2 Timothy 4:3
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

Here's the question. You are to choose the next world leader for all mankind. You have two candidates:

• #1 promises peace and safety.
• #2 promises to make you starve, to pollute your drinking water, to destroy >30% of the world's forests and all grassland and to pollute eventually the oceans. He promises to make you skin open up in sores so painful that you bite your own tongue off in pain and to make poisonous animals sting you until you wish to die, he'll keep you in total darkness and make you skin burn in scorching sun. He also promises to kill >30% of your fellow humankind.

Let us assume that both can deliver. Which one will you choose, #1 or #2? This not an idle exercise in logic, it is an actual choice that you'll have to make. Which one do you follow, #1 or #2?

God never said woman was inferior, women are everything to this world. They cook, clean, take care of children, bear children, are far more intelligent, learn faster, etc.. I think you should treat your wife with a little respect because she does far more than any man, I feel bad for all the woman being abused by their 'Christian' husbands and are brainwashed into believing he's doing it to make her a 'better person'.

Don't be silly. God's character no more contradicts aggressive submission of women than it does aggressive submission of the landscape. Just as the LORD seeks to make a point by tearing up the earth with quakes (1 Kings 19:11), fireballs from the skies (Genesis 19:24), or even unleashing the undead to corner Jews in uncomfortable conversation until they convert (Matthew 27:52-53), so He makes a point with subduing women for His glory (Deuteronomy 21:10-14), and even His own personal use (Numbers 31:31-40).

You do realise that women are totally supposed to obey their husbands, correct?

How exactly is a husband supposed to deal with a rebellious wife? Same as with any of his servants or property!
