Once in a while I get a canker sore, too. I keep some licorice root capsules (regular, not DGL) on hand for just such an occasion. I break one open and put the powder on the canker sore, and keep it there as long as I can. (Usually get 'em on my inner cheek next to the gum, so easy to put it in there like a Wad O Chew or something before bed.) Then I pray with all my heart and soul to my Lord Jesus that He will remove the vile canker demon from my mouth.

By morning, the pain is gone, and my mouth tastes licoricey-fresh! Praise the Lord!

(Apparently Colgate makes a patch with licorice root extract, but I'd never heard of it until this very moment.)

Garlaschelli used methods and materials that were available in the middle ages to reproduce the full-sized shroud. He placed a linen sheet flat over a volunteer, rubbing it with a pigment containing small amounts of acid. A mask was used for the face.

He then artificially aged the pigment by heating the cloth in an oven and then washing it. This process, which removed the pigment from the surface, left blurry, halftone images similar to those seen on the original Shroud. Bloodstains, burn holes, scorches and water stains were then added to achieve the finishing effects.
