24Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

    25Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

26That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

27That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

28So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

29For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:

(Do you people even read the Bible, or have any knowledge of what it says. The wife is to submit to the husband yes, BUT THE HUSBAND is suppose to love the wife as Christ loves the church and DIED for the Church. What was Christ, He was a servant (the Master became a Servant). NO WHERE DOES PAUL (THE APOSTLE) ever advocate violence again women, or abuse!
Doesn't the Bible say that God chastises us because he loves us?

    Hebrews 12:6 , Proverbs 3:12 , Revelation 3:19

So if God chastises us because he loves us, and we are supposed to love our wives like Jesus loves us, who are you to say we shouldn't chastise our wives? After all, they are the weaker vessel. 1 Peter 3:7

Re: I hit my wife for the first time

Eph 5:28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

Gen 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

Deu 24:5 When a man hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged with any business: [but] he shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer up his wife which he hath taken.

Mal 2:14 Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet [is] she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant.

Mal 2:15 And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.

Mal 2:16 For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for [one] covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.

I do not wish to disrespect anybody or anybody's religion. I simply wish to share my opinion with everyone who has the chance to read this. These excerpts from the bible can have many meanings. I'm sure we all interpret them differently. However, please divert your attention to Mal 2:15 which states to let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth. This could mean a number of things I'm certain and again I'm certain we all interpret it in different ways. However I wish to share with you my way of interpretation of that specific excerpt as well as the rest of which I have posted. In my oppinion these excerpts seem to detail how a man should treat his wife. They seem to state that a man should have dominion over his wife (personally I disagree, I think Marriage is an equal partnership to be equally held by both parties and neither the husband nor wife should rule the other. However you may disagree.) but should hold a relationship of respect and love rather than fear. Mal 2:15 says that you should not let anyone deal treacherously to your wife. Why does that not include you? If you are charged with protecting your wife what gives you the right to bo break that charge from god and become her would be attacker? If you are to keep this woman safe and you are instead beating her then why should you be granted favor for failing your charge? I personally believe incredibly strongly in the opinion that a woman is equal to a man. I am blessed with a beautiful girlfriend and we love eachother very much. I have never struck her nor have I ever threatened to strike her and we have an incredibly happy relationship. If you want your wife to accept your way of thinking and to give up her Job or homeschool your children or be a housewife why don't you simply try coming to her as an equal and as someone who is willing to compromise? I'm sorry to the original poster of this thread that your wife left you but in my opinion she had very good right to. You commanded her to do something with no precedent and when she didn't instantly Agree to whatever you said you struck out at her. Perhaps if you had simply taken the time to sit her down and talk to her about possibly moving a bit further into your faith she would have agreed. But instead you resorted to violence which removed any possibility of a calm consensus being reached. I hope that you and everyone else here read this and take my words to heart, your wife is to be someone loved. Not used. Women were made of a rib for a reason. They are to be kept under your arm for protection but not under your foot for dominion. They are to be held by your side as equals, not above or below you. And they are to be held near your heart, and loved like you love yourself. Thank you for your time. I hope that someone reads this and perhaps gains some knowledge from it.

First of all, try reading the REAL BIBLE and not your NIV perversion.

Re: I hit my wife for the first time

This post kind of makes me sad...
I would never hit anyone, because violence is frowned upon by God. I am not married, so I wouldn't know about partners being disobedient, but hitting them is not showing your love for them. Shouldn't we let God do the punishing, (because that is His job) and not us? Please enlighten me.

Where did you get that idea?

Ever hear of Moses? Joshua? David? Jesus?

Do you actually read your Bible or just guess from what you remember from Christmas specials on TV?
Hello, my name is Mary. I hope to fellowship with you! That is, unless you don't listen to church authority (Deuteronomy 17:12); are a witch (Exodus 22:17); are a homosexual (Leviticus 20:13; Romans 1:24-32); or fortuneteller (Leviticus 20:27) or a snotty kid who hits their dad (Exodus 21:15); or curses their parents (Proverbs 20:20; Leviticus 20:9); an adulterer (Leviticus 20:10); a non-Christian (Exodus 22:19; Deuteronomy 13:7-12; Deuteronomy 17:2-5;Romans 1:24-32); an atheist (2 Chronicles 15:12-13); or false prophet (Zechariah 13:3); from the town of one who worships another, false god (Deuteronomy 13:13-19); were a non-virgin bride (Deuteronomy 22:20-21); or blasphemer (Leviticus 24:10-16), as God calls for your execution and will no doubt send you to Hell, and I have no interest developing a friendship with the Spiritually Walking Dead.
