1 John 4: 3-5 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.

1 John 4:9-10 9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

God loves True Christians™. Everybody else is still going to hell.

Well you appear to be off to a good start, Mary. I hope you won't disappoint me. Or Jesus.

The last thing I would want to do is disappoint Jesus or any True Christian, Mr. Faith Machine.
Though I confess it has happened before, just yesterday I accidently burnt the crust of a pie I was baking (Please forgive me, God). Thank God, I have a Godly husband to beat some sense into me.

1 John 4:16 "And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him."

These verses are from 1 John. Wikipedia relates the story of this book:

The First Epistle of John, often referred to as First John and written 1 John, is a book of the New Testament. This fourth catholic or "general" epistle is attributed to John the Evangelist, traditionally thought to be the author of the Gospel of John and the other two Epistles of John. This Epistle was likely written in Ephesus between the years 95–110.[1] The work was written to counter docetism, the heresy that Jesus did not come "in the flesh," but only as a spirit. It also defined how Christians are to discern true teachers: by their ethics, their proclamation of Jesus in the flesh, and by their love.[1]

The bolded part is reinforcement of the "by their fruits shall ye know them" of Matthew 7:16 and Matthew 7:20.

And in context, we see that that is clearly NOT addressing everyone but only believers:

1 John 2:4 "He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him."

1 John 2:5 "But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him."

Notice how it doesn't say that EVERYONE is in Him?

1 John 3:23 "And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment."

Not "love everyone".

And again, for those who didn't get the message the first couple of times:

1 John 3:24 "And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us."

Hi Anna, it's always great to talk to you! What you need to do is to see this whole thing from our perspective (even though you need not hold these view).

As we believe God is real (as revealed in the Bible) we must ascribe to Him the traits the Bible specifies that He has. The Bible the only source of data about God.

As we know, this means God is loving to the people who follow His orders (gays should be killed etc) even though at first blush His rules seem harsh, arbitrary, cruel and counter productive.

But we have faith in Him that it is for the best: just like the young private puts his faith in the scary drill sergeant. The sergeant may make the private do really strange things but it is for the right reasons.

If you can model our mindset you will see the True Christian(tm) is internally consistent and logical.
