Last week I was having vacation at Portugal. I really had enough of this cold Godforsaken place I have to live right now and though that I have a holiday at some warm nice country. I did know that Portuguese have been really lazy, getting their country to bankrupt, but I though that now they would be friendly and humble as other Europeans are saving their butt.

I have to admit that it was warm, but everything else was disappointment. First we paid about 2000 dollars for our hotel apartment. The apartment itself was ok, but the equipment wasn't. There was only 25" lcd tv and about 11 channels. No dvd or BD player, no sound system. And only 2 channels where in American language.

And in every other 3rd world countries I have got servant for that price. When I asked where the servant is, they didn't understand and tried to give me room service number.

Next horror awaited me when we had a walk at the town. I was almost ripped half when waiters tried to get me to their filthy little bars and restaurants where waitress had moustache and looked like mexican. Fortunately we found McDonald's and got some decent food, not any weird stuff like their cataplana where they put things they find under the stones.

When we had eaten, we asked if the place had any attraction that we should see and we where led to catlic church! How rude is that?

Later in the evening, I visited the town square. I had to leave my family to the hotel because streets were full of drunken Brits and you know they are not something to show to your children. I sat down to a bench and watched mime artist for maybe 5 minutes and I was approached by man trying to sell me weed. And the worst part was that he was asking about 30 euros/gram. Do I really look like drug addict and stupid?

This was only the first day. I could continue forever about cold swimming pool, horrible gym etc, but I think this is enough. I think EU should not bailout the Portugal, they should be forced to sell all their country to pay their depts and then ship the people to the Mexico to leave the area to better people.

Portuguese people

Let's get some thing straighten here.
It's appalling to see so much haterd towards a country that has

1- Portugal does not belong to Spain, because they fought for their liberty, like countries in the United Kindom fought for their freedom and like america fought for theirs. Spain tried to get it back, but they couldn't.

2- Portugal's financial help is no different than what the U.S. Government did to try to save those filthy, corrupted companies that started this crisis.

3- I don't understand how can I see an American judging Portugal on a drug level, since america is a much more violent country with much severe drug issues. Portugal has extremely low criminality rates, while american rates are as high as it gets.

4- People with no historical knowledge about Portugal, who make demographic analysis about emigration just prove my point. Portugal had a dictatorship until 1974. Right after it ended and during the years following, people fled to seek opportunities they didn't have under the regime. Most of them ended up establishing there (and I believe that your opinion about the portuguese is very much based on these people you cross ways in your contry, but they do not represent all of us).

5- Portugal is a beautiful, gorgeous place with stunning beaches, great food and epic landscapes. If people end up going to spots they didn't like, it's because they really didn't care. Google it:
Algarve, Sintra, Oporto, Lisbon, Evora, Madeira... Just some examples of how beautiful portugal is. Plus, if you decide to go to Hawaii, for example, if you don't do your homework, you'll end up with crappy vacations.
You get out of America. I find a room with a tv with 11 channels and "portugal sucks" because of it ?"

6- I am a Economics student, in the best Economics university in Portugal. Taking the 2nd best masters in the world (CEMS) according to the Financial Times. I speak English, far better than a large number of U.S. citizens, plus Portuguese, and French, and Spanish, and Italian. I have traveled all around Europe, America and a little bit of Africa.
It's funny to see you people raging about the Portuguese, having absolutely no clue what you are talking about. "lazy, rude ugly" ahahah! Ugly! Comming from the number 1 country, when it comes to FAT.


We are part of the European Union, founders of the 6th most spoken language in the globe, because we went to discover the world and spread the word of god and our costumes. Our population is small, yet in football we fight with germany and brazil on the same level.
As I see it, most of the people who came here to spread the hate, are not conscious about what they are saying. So no hate intended here. But just take a look around at your hateful comments. I don't see how you call yourselves so catholic and then go raging and hating based on nothing...

I do aknowledge that Portugal is going through rough times. But that doesn't change its greatness. Or its people. Or its beauty. Or its food. Or its respect for Human Rights, Freedom and Democracy. It's just a phase...

I am sorry if I offended anyone, but I thought I needed to come here to correct some comments that reveal a lot of ignorance.

I'm Portuguese, born and raised as a Catholic. I lived in the U.S., since I'm 14 and I'm currently attending Harvard University (haters are going to hate!). I have a German background though, but my German grandparents were killed in Munich after a Baptist pastor told the Nazis, that they were nursing a Jewish baby, whose parents left the baby at my grandparent's house with a simple note. My mother luckily fled to Portugal with the rest of her family.

The Baptists were one of the most supportive forces during Hitler's leadership. It was the hatred from people who claim to be people of God, that killed my family.

God is not hateful. Those who see God as hateful, I pity you. Really, I do. God IS LOVE. God loves us all. Jesus saved a prostitute, he told us not to judge, because we are all sinners. Being Christian is following Christ and Christ loved, he did not hate.

Did CHRIST ever say: "I hate this!" No.

So, for the pastor who has the "Who will be damned" thing. Well, WHO are YOU to judge in the name of God? Only God can and will judge us. Judging who is and who is not worthy of God's love is stupid, because God loves us all.

On the Holy Roman Catholic Church:

We follow the successor of St.Peter. It was Jesus himself who founded this institution, look it up in the bible. So, yeah, if you're Christian and if Christ founded the Roman Catholic Church, isn't this Christ's church?

On Portugal v USA:

1. Portugal is one of the oldest nations in the world, we fought for our independence, we've beaten everyone who dared to knock on our doorstep. My people were betrayed by their elites when the Spanish took over, but we took care of them in a jiff.

2. Our crime rates are one of the best in the world, whereas the U.S., as a whole, is a disaster.

3. To the Original Poster: You should've done some research. For 2000 you could have gone to some of the best places in Portugal. If drunk guys hang out regularly, than you just did not know what to look for. Portugal is considered one of the best destinations in the world. You probably just picked up a bad place. If I went to Redneckville,USA I would also hate the country, but you just have to see the broader picture.

So, before I get out of here I'd just like to leave with this remark.
