Well, I'm here to try and show you that most of you are wrong in your opinion of the Portuguese people.

I'll start by saying I have no religion affiliation what so ever but I respect your choice. So I wont get into theology.

I'll start by saying that I find your statements rather offensive. History lesson first I guess.

The great discoveries were not made by Spain, their part was secondary. Since I don't feel like writing to much about it I'll recommend that you read this to become some what less ignorant.

About the Portuguese people, I would like to ask you what would I think if I went into Washington D.C., went into random streets and tried to speak Portuguese with them, what do you think would happen? Would I have a good opinion of Americans?

What is the percent of Americans you estimate you could probably have an interesting conversation with? I estimate that may be 20% could be interesting for me and that can only go lower. Now tell me do you think that more than 20% of the American population is interesting and welcome? So yes we do have rude, lazy, ugly, drug selling people, also you should know that most of these people are no even Portuguese but low quality emigrants that came when Portugal became part of the U.E. the borders were open too all Europeans (these are mostly eastern Europeans). Also we have allot of problems with African communities that came as we left our colonies, a situation that you USA citizens should understand better than no one since you have allot problems with your own African communities.

About the money, we have a stronger coin than you, the time when Portugal was a cheap place to travel is long gone. Lisbon is the 39th most expensive city in the world and that after we had a deflation in 2009 and a small inflation in the last years. If you came here expecting to be treated as a king because you had US dollars you should have noticed that Euros are worth more than dollars.
Most Portuguese live with about 600$US per month in a country with roughly the same prices as you. So were not worth it?

About people sending you to Catholic churches, they were not sending you there to pray... but to see the architecture, the decorations and etc, you should note that all of these churches are pre-industrial many of them over 400 years old. Would you refuse to go in Notre Dame because it is a catholic church?

As for my own opinion on the Portuguese people, yes I agree that many of us are exactly as you described but that's what you call the masses, and those well they are quite bad in most countries not only here.

And about our cuisine well we have too many ways of eating, the traditional heavy cuisine is difficult even for me, personally I don't like many of the Portuguese traditional dishes, but our light cuisine is better than most. Inform yourself before going to a random country.

To end I suggest that you see This although you are not a Finn it should work either way.

I also find interesting that I've been banned for no real reason Oo. It would seem some people don't know how to argue as civilized people.

Well, if someone insulted your country, wouldn't you defend it and prove them wrong? It's normal for Portuguese people to come here and post, you've insulted them. Ok, I agree that some of them choose the wrong way of criticising, but it's a natural response after an insult.

The only thing I can say is that MisterM is rude and ignorant. You have never been in Portugal, for sure! Everyone who visited Portugal loved it, because it has a lot of monuments, great food and really nice people. And women are not ugly as your fat americans.

I'm a portuguese 24 year old woman. First of all, I'd like to call you all ignorants for showing ITALIAN videos and claiming they're portuguese. Second of all, I would like to advise you to EDUCATE yourselves and at least research something before claiming it as truthful. Portuguese is a language and it is only similar to Spanish because they both come from Latin. As a Spanish language student myself, I have to disagree that it's the same language - I speak both and it's NOT as similar as you ignorants believe. I find it funny that a country that was built by French, German and English people has such a high rate of racist assholes.

I also think it's quite laughable to be at a Baptist Church Forum where all I can see here is the spreading of hate, racism and xenophobia.
