More proof being a catholic promotes mental retardation.

The headline in the semi-official Vatican newspaper, the Osservatore Romano, is more than a little provocative – at least by Vatican standards: “Homer And Bart Are Catholic.”


So is the Pope Catholic? D’oh! But Homer Simpson?


Matt Groening’s wildly popular televison family, The Simpsons, and has now received its second Vatican blessing. The first came last December.


This time around, the newspaper takes up an article from a scholarly Jesuit magazine, La Civilta Cattolica, which praises The Simpsons for dealing with “anthropological themes linked to the quality and the meaning of life.”


Father Francesco Occhetta, writing in La Civilta Cattolica, said the series is not without its dangers, but that if the show is taken with a grain of salt, parents should not be afraid to let their children watch it.

OK do these "people" realize that Homer Simpson is make believe? He's not real.

“The Simpsons remains one of the few TV programs for kids in which Christian faith, religion, and the question about God are recurring themes,” Occhetta wrote.

Besides Bart getting a good beating from his father I see nothing even remotely Christian about it (they can't be referring to Flanders, the definition of a "fluffY Christian). Please let me be redundant here friends, because this can not be stressed enough - Catholics are NOT Christians, I would think Fox News would know better - Rupert is going to hear about this.

Typical catholics, talking about crap they don't know anything about.

In one episode they send Bart to a Catholic school (no other school will take him) and Homer decides to convert because they serve pancakes for supper. In that episode, Reverend Lovejoy states that they are of the "Western Branch of American Reform Presbylutheranism".

Even if they didn't see that episode, it's pretty clear that since Reverend Lovejoy is married and has a daughter that they are not Catholics. But hey, whatever will get people to join right?

In the same way the Mary Worshipers ignore Scripture they are also clearly ignoring that the Simpsons go to an evangelical church in the series. Unless they want to claim Homer Simpson's fellow church member Ned Flanders as a Catholic.

Depicted is an area of Protestant heaven with classy white folk wearing preppy whites - including the standard sweater draped over one's shoulder with the sleeves tied together--playing a decorous game of crochet; and a rowdy Catholic heaven full of ethnic types drinking and eating and dancing and playing boisterously.

How ridiculous! Catholics aren't going to heaven.

The only sane thing about the entire episode is that the two religious leaders agree that stem cell research and gay marriage are abominations unto the Lord.
